To think I used to complain about how FUNi was releasing too little and couldn't handle it. Now it's "FLOOD ALL THE RETAILERS!". Whelp.

Anyway just need Ergo Proxy, Snow White with the Red Hair, Rurouni Kenshin, Omamori Himari (how I've waited so long, though now the release will look worse than it would have years ago from FUNi Why'd it take so long to get when the manga sold like hotcakes for Yen Press for years?), Sword of the Stranger, and Summer Wars.

Surprised they're able to release Castle Town Dandelion less than a year after the Japanese release finished, and got the clean OP/EDs when they're not Sentai, and TBS doesn't like companies that aren't Sentai. And I wonder if the Heaven's Lost Property movie will be BD-sized or DVD-sized. It'll probably be BD-sized, forever screwing over a single instance of shelf-consistency for that series thanks to their screw-up with the S1 Anime Classics release (BD-slipcover over the OOP DVD-sized RE for S1, later received a DVD-sized slipcover) that affected the S2 AC release. Also a bit surprised Okami-san hit S.A.V.E. even though I know the S.A.V.E. and AC lines don't make much sense. The LE for that was one of the rare ones to go fast.

Oh and fun bit of trivia for those that don't know this, FUNi's cover was slightly edited from the JP one. Note the amount of leg being shown.

It's not that bad, really. The tint is not quite visible in the first three screenshots, which were taken from the opening, but the remaining ones are from the second episode, and you can see some yellow around the black outlines. In the fourth one, it kind of looks like Zagato hasn't been brushing his teeth.

Also Discotek's Blu-ray releases are all authored by Justin Sevakis who is the best out of those who author anime in R1 (Aniplex USA has their stuff authored in Japan so...). His stuff turns out great.

Never as it probably doesn't sell much for them anymore (they first released the show in singles starting in early 2006, that's how long they've had it), and they've mostly stopped doing Blu-rays for series that lack them in Japan. Who knows if there ever will be a Blu-ray release for the series in Japan.

Funimation used to advertise that Desert Punk was coming to Blu-ray, but that was also the same time they were saying Blue Gender, Nabari no Ou, and a few others were too which still have not happened.

I have that box set. Would rather have it on blu-ray but at least I do own it at all I guess. The series I really want on blu-ray the most is the original Berserk. France and Japan have nice sets but they don't have English subs. Guess I'll have to live with my DVD box set of that for now as well.

Probably back from when they regularly did those then, which was like 2008-2011, then they stopped doing their own upscales around then.

It's really unfortunate we don't have that.

Big upgrade from the DVD here, the only arguable "flaw" I see is some grain reduction, but it's nothing objectionable, and I don't see any loss of detail. The DVD is the Media Blasters R1 remaster release, which was claimed to be a new telecine, but wasn't. It was at least made from component masters and progressive - it's pretty decent overall. One improvement not noticeable in the screen shots is that you don't see the shmutz at the edge of the film frame every time there's a cut from one scene to another. This was pretty apparent in the DVDs, and a lot of old telecines are like that.

Oh, and I noticed that the episode titles appear originally have been done digitally - they look like not so good upscales to me. Weird that just such a minor thing would be done digitally in an otherwise entirely cel-based production. I'm kind of surprised they didn't redo them for the BD like the OP and ED titles. But I can live with 5 seconds or so of mediocre upscale per episode.

wtf I didn't know that. Who even owns the rights for the series in the US? I am wondering if it will be getting a US release though with the new series being somewhat popular and the announcement of blu-rays for that coming. Tough decision on whether to order that or wait and see.

Media Blasters had the rights, but they've since expired.
http://www.fandompost.com/oldforums/...l=1#post145259

VIZ Media has the movies, and Crunchyroll has the new TV series that everyone hates.

Oh and funny thing with Media Blasters and Berserk...

I was coming from a viewpoint of trying to make the best DVD release of Berserk as possible. Back in 2008, blu-ray wasn't really kickin' for older anime series, so I didn't see Berserk on blu-ray as a plausible medium at the time. Also, MB was in the shit hole, and way backlogged on payments for the licensing rights to Berserk, so my attempt and plea to the execs there was simply to put out one more release of Berserk on DVD that fans could be happy with. No way MB was going to fork out the dough for a BD release, and MB didn't even want to re-release Berserk in the first place because it didn't seem profitable. Well, as it turned out, the remastered Berserk set was one of the top sellers for MB in 2009, and probably still.

Desert Punk is pretty hilarious except for the ending which I didn't care for. But if ecchi comedy is your thing, then it deserves at least a watch. The series lacks any intelligence, but a series like this does not need any. I think Eric Vale was easily casted as Sanji in One Piece because of how similar his character in here is to Sanji.

When was the last time the Cowboy Bebop Amazon exclusive was in stock?

I'm assuming it's long out of print now, but I remember someone posting that there were additional copies available for a limited time maybe within the last year? I'd gotten my original copy on release day but of course it was destroyed when my basement flooded.

I'm totally enjoying it... I have no aversion to CG at all, and I like having unique animation styles in anime, makes it stand out because it is different from the same-ol' same-ol'... at least it ain't all cutesy-moe-looking, lol....
