Anyone get a 3D trailer at their theater for Ben Hur 3D yet? The lack of a single 3D trailer makes it seem like they're short on time to convert the film or understaffed for the conversion.
If the film has strong 3D most of the way, I'll see it. |

Came across a post on FB for Ben-Hur. It basically advertised not only the 3D but also some of the pop outs. Don't know if this has been on TV or not. If the 3D is strong enough, this should look cool.
https://www.facebook.com/BenHurFilm/...type=2&theater Plus just came across a 3D trailer on youtube. Last edited by Hardkore; 08-04-2016 at 03:58 PM. |

Thanks for finding a 3D trailer, though I'm pretty certain after just watching it on my 3D TV that the trailer is an auto converted trailer from the youtube channel's host. There are pretty much no obvious layers and the 3D has a strange flickering effect as if it's trying to find where the layering is. I've seen them do that on youtube too often lately.

The film as Levcore mentioned, will have an uphill battle to find a mainstream audience. The best thing going for it is that it won't have too much heavy competition in theaters by releasing in August. Too bad it took the spot of TMNT 2 3D, which would've done better in August 2016 rather than June. |

Just found out it will not be playing at my local Imax this weekend. The nearest to me is in NOLA. If,If they are still showing it there in a couple of weeks when I am on vacation, I will be there .The one I go to regularly will still be playing Suicide Squad.

So Chris Stuckmann saw it and didn't hate it, but he complained about the directing style of the chariot scene, which made the 3D a pain for him and he rarely get sick during 3D movies.

Interesting review, thanks. He was entertained, but for him, that's not enough to feel the movie is worth existing in this case, from what he was saying. Thankfully his review gives us a slightly better idea of what we might expect here.

That could be a good thing since Squad 3D is still going well in theaters, with week 3 this weekend, when Ben Hur 3D starts in the US. |

I actually liked "Chasing the 8" for what it was. It was an enjoyable film, and I'm glad I bought it. |

I have however gotten sick (big headaches after, and at some brief moments even feeling nauseous) from films in 2D which had a lot of choppy camera work unusual camera angles, namely Green Zone, The Tree of Life, and the first Hunger Games. So I can see that being an issue with the movie if it is as Stuckmann describes, though I'm not sure it would be a problem limited to viewing the film in 3D either. |

Saw this Tonight, the camerawork was choppy at a few points, but don't think all that much or nearly as much to make me feel sick. Only negative I could throw towards the 3D presentation is at least in this IMAX showing, there was some ghosting in a number of shots in the darker lit scenes.
Like a lot of modern 3D films, the 3D tends to be more conservative in dialogue scenes (though some close-ups actually had really impressive sense of depth), but ramps up for the action sequences, and it was some really impressive POV shots in the ship battle and the chariot race scene that made the 3D experience, only pop-out elements I noticed were some rain and snow, and dirt/debris in the chariot race. Movie itself was fine enough though had some lulls, but if you compare it to the 1959 film (which I get it is not technically a remake of as the producers don't have the rights to that film, rather an unrelated adaptation of the public domain source novel) it lacks in basically every category: acting, writing, directing, music, even cinematography and sense of epic scale. |
