Default Ad is 2 weeks in advance??

I find it odd that the add is not for another 2 weeks. I am not famililar with how companies do their weekly advertisements and it looks legitimate but i dont see how some one can get an ad that is not do out for another 2 weeks...Guess i am being negative, but if it is true all the better...

Where does it say limited time only? This says that it's permanent:

Jazar is correct. This is an official price drop and not just a Circuit City special. Great news for new PS3 buyers.

This is the kick in the arse the PS3/BD needs to get through summer. The 4th quarter is going to get very interesting.

I think the date is a day or two after E3 ends, so I'm expecting the 'official' announcement to come at the show.

in any case, as long as it brings more people to the Playstation/Bluray side, this is good news.

A Circuit City manager broke a few rules.

The managers get the ads a few weeks before they print, now, those ads shouldn't leak because then your competition knows what you plan and can attempt to outmarket you.

But, given that they're publicly owned companies, most of the sales are well known between the entities. I know when I was at Hastings, we found out about alot of our competitions marketing decisions weeks before. We especially loved hearing that BB wasn't going to carry a title .

Hopefully the price drop will give the PS3 a sales boost. If only EB and GS would stop pumping up the 360 at the PS3's expense and making the PS3 seem like utter garbage then maybe, just maybe, the price drop will truly be beneficial. If I didn't have over $300 in store credit there, I wouldn't buy from them. I'd just go to CC or BB or just order my games online so that I wouldn't have to hear about how great the 360 is, when from personal experience, I would say it was great when it actually didn't hit me with the 3 red lights of death.

Pretty sendipidous for Sony that there is this experimental price cut just as the Xbox 360 reliability bombshell hits.

Elite: $469 (no HD DVD, no HD audio, reliability?)
PS/3: $499 (Blu-ray, HD audio and proven reliability)

Hmmm.

In all honesty I don't think this price cut will do much for the PS3. $499 is still a huge investment for casual gamers which SONY was big with during the PSX and PS2 days. Not to say this won't boost sales cause it will, but anything over $400 is a lot to drop on a console for most people. I still think even the 360 is too highly priced to really appeal to the masses. The only reason it's even leading in sales is because it's been out longer. I think both consoles need to get down more around the $350 dollar price range. That will be a big stretch for either of them, but I think that's what it's going to take to really get sales moving.

It looks like this only applies to the US and the whole North American market.

It looks like there won't be a price cut for other countries just yet (perhaps there might be one for Xmas).

Wrong about that one by 20 american dollars. The XBOX 360 Elite will cost 47800 Japanese yen or 390 in american dollars (US$400 if you order from Play-Asia.com).

The reason why price is lower than US/Canadian prices is because X360 SUCKS in Japan that's why they need to get a lower price ASAP.

They'll start dropping the price of the XBOX 360 PRO system to US$299 in Japan and they'll phase out the Core system. The new PRO system is the X360 Elite while the new Core will be the PRO system. Only two variants will be sold starting October this year.

EDIT: Since it might not only be for circuit city stores but for the whole north american continent as well. Hopefully E3 should provide us with details.
