Default Latest harry potter too dark?

with the story getting alot darker does anyone think with order of the phoenix alot of the fun and enjoyment has gone out of the potter films.I have the first four and havent bothered buying the latest one.I cant remember one light hearted or funny moment.Goblet of fire was dark in places but being so serious all the way through i just dont think it suits this series.

The series goes downhill after the fourth installement. I actually believe that Tha Half Blood Prince will be better than the Order of the Phoenix.

I'd agree there's less light-hearted fun going on. But the impending doom is kind of hard to get past. I will say I wish Ron had more of these moments that made him so likeable in the first few films. He seems to get more dull as they go on.

I've always wanted a darker and more adult tone as the series progresses. A few appropriately placed comedic or light hearted moments isn't bad, we don't want the movie to be a complete downer. But seeing a brutal and even fatal side of magic in this story has always interested me.

Harry potter 1 & 2 were directed by the same guy (chris columbus) that directed Home Alone, which is evident because they are very.... warm and fun. They are more... cheerful. My personal favorites

the first 4 movies were all very similar. Theres a conflict, Harry and the group work together and get through it alive and figure out whats going on. There's usually a single villain, and Harry gets extra-help from teachers to beat them.

The 5th movie is where that ends. It becomes obvious there will no longer be a single mystery villain. And its the 5th movie, that Harry teachers others what he has learned the past 4 years... Its kind of the .... transition movie into the last 2 movies.

I love the directing, camera work, and picture quality of the 5th film

I worry about the movies getting farther away from the books. I Hate it when that happens. If a director wants a different story then let him make a new one from scratch but taking a writer's work and changing it is kind of insulting to his/her achievement.

Writers should not agree to such changes IMO.

The books are dark, the difference is that the book also has enough room to show the dark and the lighter sides.
Unfortunately the general populace has ruined things for the rest of us by convincing studios that people- especially americans- have short attention spans for movies so they cut out alot of the lighter things that give the books balance.

Higher rate of education, less political bullying, general better economy with some exceptions, better environmental standards, lower rates of obesity...just off of the top of my head but this is not really a political forum.

We know, just got sidetracked.
But yes they are getting darker, and I think the fact that they are doing the next one in two parts should help it find balance between being too dark and too light so do not give up on them yet.

Hmm, it seemed as if you were referring to the latest film being a trend of progressive darkness in the series, so I think people were going off of that theme, in general.

The books do, indeed, get much darker... but that's kind of what the whole series was leading up to anyway, even from the light-hearted first books... that Harry would eventually meet Voldemort and they would battle. Being that Voldemort and Harry come closer to meeting in every book, and Voldemort being a dark wizard, it makes sense that the series gets increasingly darker, up until the very end, the final battle.

Definitely give it a go. If the movies stay true to the books (*crosses fingers*) then you won't be disappointed. Harry Potter is a good series.
