If Laika's previous films are any indication, the 3D Blu-ray version of Kubo and the Two Strings will have the 3D and 2D versions on the same disc.

Saw this movie in dolby cinema at AMC and it was absolutely amazing. Where is the 4k release of this movie??? If they dont at least give it a dolby atmos audio track i will be extremely upset. This was probably my favorite movie of the summer next to star trek beyond.

Not only the big screen but at a dolby cinema. I drive 3.5 hours from raleigh NC to Hampton VA on a regular basis to see movies in dolby cinema. It is worth the 7 hour total drive. I have never been disappointed.

If you go to dolby.com's main page they explain how they brought the stop motion animation to life.

I watched this movie earlier this week with zero expectations (a friend wanted to see it and I hadn't even seen a full trailer) and I was blown away. This is easily one of the best films of the year. I feel confident in saying this will most likely be a day one purchase for me.

what's your take on the Hampton VA, Dolby Cinema screen and all? Here in the DC area, the Tyson's Corner Dolby screen has ambient red light ricocheting from the floor back onto the screen, it's really visually distracting once you see it. I thought the Atmos mix was good, not great, but of course even Tyson's Atmos settings can a bit dodgy - going to resee this over at Arclight Bethesda and it's Atmos equipped screen next week (and which I find to be superior of the two).

I'm really hoping for a UHD edition of this...

I saw it at Tysons Dolby Cinema and enjoyed it very much. loved the picture & sound too. speaking for myself, I enjoy watching movies at the AMC Tysons Dolby Cinema. those red lights don't distract me or my daughter not one bit; but, that's us. I do respect your opinion and point of view, so, this was not a slight at you in anyway. you see it the way you see it.

I've not been to the Bethesda theater you mentioned, perhaps i'll have to check that out at some point.

the movie itself is an incredible piece of artwork, the studio has another good hit on it's hand. I do hope that the Blu-ray release gets the ATMOS treatment from the start on both blu & UHD (if they release it in that format).

I saw this film today and it was a wonderful experience. I'm a big fan of all the films from Laika and this one might be my favorite. The animation was breathtaking, the characters compelling and the story exciting and full of depth. I'm getting the BD day one for sure!

The hampton VA dolby cinema does have the same red glare on the screen that you mention. However I do not find it to be a distraction from the movie. It is noticable but I am usually so immersed in the movie that I don't notice. From what I have heard other Dolby Cinemas are like I dont think that this is the nicest one but I am already driving 3.5 hours to this one, it is worth it, but I don't think I would drive any further just for that specific reason. Also isnt there theaters in DC that have D-box seats in them? If so have you experienced them and how was the experience?

One of the best movies this year. It is such a shame parents take their kids to mediocre crap like Secret Life of Pets while ignoring this great movie

I saw this in 3D earlier this week. It's outstanding. Everything about it is excellent. The visuals are stunning, the voice acting is top-notch, the story and characters are compelling. This film does not just tell a children's story, or try to be a "family movie" like so many of the weak animated features these days, it aims to build a legend, and it succeeds. It reminds me of other recent animated triumphs like Song of the Sea, and I would be shocked if it was not a Best Animated Film nominee at the next Academy Awards.

Go watch this in the theater, its box office numbers are a tragedy. Also pick this up when it releases on disc, you won't regret it.
