"Supercop" is a pretty solid action film. It's unquestionably a better movie than "Tiny Furniture".

This is probably why they don't list their LD titles, because a bunch of people will be constantly wondering "When will Criterion upgrade these LD titles to blu-ray?" for stuff they have long lost the rights to / have no access to usable elements / which is not of interest to their catalog any more.

They have enough trouble appeasing the DVD upgrade pestering as is

Bonus features are searchable on IMDB.com. One may also search by "Criterion Collection" to get a list of films and features released on blu-ray, dvd and laser disc.

Tokyo will host the Olympics come 2020. Maybe Criterion should find ways to re release Tokyo Olympiad.

This seems like something that would be included on the forthcoming Before Trilogy set. It was distributed by Sundance Selects (IFC).

That would make a surely stellar set that much more stellar.

I'm from WNY, but spend a fair amount of time in Toronto. There are probably some actual Toronto residents around the forum who may have better info, but feel free to PM me if you like and I'll tell you what I know!

Just been to Montreal the past two weeks, I couldn't move too much from Downtown so I did all my moviewatching on the Scotiabank Theater (all movies there are on their original language without french subs, not sure about foreign ones though), only big releases there though, it has IMAX, UltraAVX, etc.

There is another showing more indie stuff called Cinema du Parc but I didn't went there, it is supposed to offer English subs for foreign language films, finally for the most bang per buck there is one called Dollar Cinema with incredible prices, I really wanted to watch The Lobster there, but unfortunately it was too far from were I was staying, not sure about the language situation there my guess is most foreign movies will probably have French instead of English subtitles.

Just make sure to get some smoked meat, and bagels while in Montreal . Also, I'd recommend visiting Quebec City if you can spare time, my gf and her family just came from there, and it's so beautiful.

Don't forget the Poutine (although sacrilegious as it may be, my favorite place for poutine is in Ottawa).

Thanks for the response, guys. I'm going to Toronto for a concert, but I figured I'd take advantage of the time off and make a trip out of it by starting in Montreal. Cinéma du Parc was one of the theaters I came across while doing a little research. Will definitely keep my eye out on the upcoming schedule. Hoping I manage to be in the right place at the right time and get some worthwhile classic 35mm screenings.

EDIT: And yes, food will also be a priority, as always when traveling.

True, poutine is a must. I'm still hoping it'll catch on one day in the states. Our cheese curd game is sorely lacking though.

Torontonian here.

The Toronto TIFF Bell Lightbox is always running foreign movies, indies, and various retrospectives year round. They haven't announced their Fall slate yet but you could keep tabs here:

http://www.tiff.net/films-and-talks/

The Royal Cinema is sometimes worth a look:

http://www.theroyal.to/

Revue Cinema too:

http://revuecinema.ca/

Reg Hartt's Cineforum is as alternative as it gets, this guy screens movies at his house (40 seat capacity). He frequently screens rare or forbidden golden age cartoons:

http://reghartt.ca/cineforum/?cat=34

You will notice that on his page, back in June he said he would close down. This must be taken with a grain of salt, as he says this every year, so keep checking his schedule in October.

As a Canadian, I never 'got' the greatness of poutine, other than the fact that it was a nice way to fill your stomach for cheap. Back in the 90s I used to get it for $1 in my high school cafeteria whenever I needed something to fill me up. Now prices have gone up and it's basically the same price as a burger. It's just fries with hot gravy melting some cheese curds. Meh.
