At home, I am sure I can find cheaper options to control the ambient light levels so I can use a much cheaper screen. Like the presenter said, your black levels can only be as black as the screen looks with the PJ off. The PJ cannot make it darker, only brighter. Now your eyes will adjust to the light levels accordingly as the displayed material gets brighter and with the proper setup your eyes can perceive better black levels, but that is up to the individual and their perceptions. I am not going into that area here, plenty of material if you search. So I guess if light control is not possible and you are not happy with your picture quality and colors, then these screens are an option.
Edit: If considering the 0.8 gain version, be aware that it will take extra light to produce an image of the same brightness as before. This is especially true when it comes to active 3D, the kind where your 3D glasses have a battery and the glasses must be turned on to work.

The Black Diamond is available in two gains. Learn more below.
1.4 gain -Most popular gain of Black Diamond screens. While similar in color to the .8 gain, projected content will appear brighter and have a much wider viewing cone. Excellent choice for multi-purpose rooms / commercial applications and larger screen sizes. Works well for well-lit rooms and 3D content.
.8 gain - Near black in color and best overall black level of all SI gains. Recommended for dedicated home theaters or smaller screen sizes, where viewers will be sitting directly in front of screen - as viewing cone is more narrow than the higher gain screens. Will work with active 3D content, but not generally recommended as brightness is reduced by almost half in 3D mode.
