Probably because a show like this wouldn't survive on a big network, and Amazon is looking to get in to the streaming game like Netflix. This was probably a pretty good call, honestly. Plus, on Amazon, it can be fully R rated without much censorship, something the bigger networks wouldn't be able to do.
