Uh, yeah, I saw that it was upconverted SD in JJ's reply yesterday. But thanks for taking the time to point it out again.

Ack, didn't make the association, sorry. I honestly thought that was a screen capture. And the 16x9 area of it is 800x450 too, so it's "un-upconverted" (might have been upscaled on the TV but the res of the photo is almost standard 480p).

Anyway, on this topic, I have a recording of Ep. III in 1080p (probably not the only here who does) and it looks amazing. It's kinda funny to see the grain-like noise on the human characters contrasting with the 100%-clear CGI that composes everything else.

As for Episode 4 it will always look like crap, go back and look at the differences between Episodes 4 and 5 Episode 4 you can see a lot of errors in the DVD transfers with the Special Editions specifically with regards to the scenes right after they escape the Death Star look at the blockiness in the Tie Fighter fight scenes. I never saw how poor the film quality was until they did the DVD transfers. My old VHS copies I could never see the blockiness in some of the space fighting scenes. I dunno how bad the DVD look for the episode 4 Rerelease before Greedo Shot first but id imagine it would still have the same issue.
Geez, I remember seeing those matt lines when they were first released in theatres.

So just how much money will we collectively have to throw in front of George Lucas before we can get these on Blu?

Im not holding my breath for a blu-ray SW release anytime soon. Honestly, I am still bitter over how long it took him to release it on DVD!

Not bitter enough to not buy all 6...but still.

I have Star Wars Episodes 4-6 downloaded in full 1080p as WMVHD files with 5.1 surround. They look amazing.

maybe Mr. George will release the first trilogy on blu next year due to the 10th year anniversary. OR we will have to wait like...25 years for a remastered version.
GOOD or BAD i must say I would love to See and Hear The phantom manace Race in HD!
And i undoubtably believe that Lucas Arts will make image and sound perfect!

DTS-HD Super Master Audio 9.1 will probably be around when they see a release date

Hum.. come to think of it, that would be pretty awesome for the space battles and race sequence
