The only problem there is this is going about cooperative play, muting them destroys team communication.

Further more in cases where there is a team of you and them, and they have there tv set to cnn at a high volume...

When I go through the processing of if I should mute someone, its a long process that requires pros and cons to be evaluated, what it will cost the team, and how best to deviate the cons produced by the action of mutting a single player in a team based game.

Since the muting of a single player is not simply my decision but a decision that affects the entire team it requires a thought out evaluation.

Since by muting the player you can cause a communication breakdown and further levitate your team to total loss because of the communication breakdown.

I vote for only allow the PS3 headset to work with the PS3.

Apparently it works really well and has little background noise associated with it.

Its true that there is a lot people with crappy headset and we can't hear much more than static noise... but I was wondering if it was because of the connexion or because of their headset?

But at the same time, I hate when a company force you to buy everything from them when you could easily use what you already have... like a keyboard, headset, webcam...

no i meant when you get a call or wife or girlfriend comes in while gaming and ask you something stupid you have the option of muting yourself so the rest of the team doesn't have to hear any of it.

no the mute button on the new headset just like every cell phone has a mute button when you don't want the other players to hear your background noise.

The new Sony approved headset does cut out the noise very well. It also has a big button on the side that if your girlfriend or whoever is asking you something you can push it so everybody doesn't hear you talking. The largest problem here isn't a button to talk or not but gaming courtesy. If you are watching "CNN" then you aren't really paying attention to the game. You can't look at two things at once. Unfortunately you can't make people turn their music down or quit talking to somebody else. You can however point out to them and ask nicely to quit. Most of them will. Those that don't mute them. Mics were put into games to communicate with the other players. PTT severely hinders that in a moment where you need to communicate quickly. If people want to be annoying with there voice comms they will. I played resistance (which has PTT) with a guy running around the whole time singing like it was american idol. At the very least there should be an option for the host to have open comms or PTT!

Well said. Open mic especially in team based matches is a MUST. Online communities are about communication and interaction.

Open mic is the best as long as there is the option to mute.

I agree 100%. I you happen to get someone on your team that wont stop singing or whatever you warn them, mute them and kick them when the match is over.
Which in my experience doesn't happen that often usually if the rest of the team asks the person to stop whatever they are doing they usually do it or quit.

I like open mic, as long as its like Warhawk when you can control the sensitivity... that way you don't hear any background noise.

PTT - i'm ok with on/off (ala L3) but also like the option to only talk while the button is held, etc. Leave THAT part up to the developers as long as I have the on/off button.
