There's no way I'll be buying that set for anything close to $76.99. Sorry. I own all the episodes so for $76.99 I'd be getting some unknown amount of unused footage sewn into some mini-documentaries. The footage isn't even viewable separately form what I understand, so if you want to see certain bits or clips again, you have to shuffle your way through the documentary to see them again. This is not the way this should have been handled imo.

$59.49 on Amazon.ca...

What does that work out to? Like $45 US?

I wouldn't expect you Americans to be paying any more than $44.99 come release day.

Ah, the Trek Tax strikes again.

They know Trekkies will always pay, so they always sock their wallets accordingly.

They tried it with I Love Lucy, too... failed miserably.

And when people don't buy for overinflated prices, they just assume "Well, no one wants to see this" instead of "wow, we charged waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much".

http://trekcore.com/blog/2016/08/mor...rom-las-vegas/

I'm a big Trek fan, so sure, I've got the original series both on DVD and blu-ray. From what I've read, the Okudas and company have explained enough for me to know the footage they are including will be placed in context to their new documentaries or whatever means they've planned for on the set. So unless there's something in a review from folks who've seen it warning against picking it up for some reason, I will find it impossible for me not to pick this up, for a decent sale price.
I've seen plenty of DVDs in the past - in fact the Lost in Space series blu-rays that came out last year do this - where they sew all the tiny bits and clips together into a 1/2-hour or 1-hour extra, so you just sit back and watch the clips in succession. With the Lost in Space blu-rays, there is over an hour of unused clips and special effects outtakes, all assembled into one long 1-hour-plus segment. Just sit back and watch all the short bits and clips. They did that with the ancient Red Dwarf DVDs - tons of unused effects shots and outtakes, They also did that for various Doctor Who classic DVDs. They also did it for the Space:1999 blu-rays. These are just a few examples. They also did it for Battlestar Galactica - the original series - each episode had it's own "outtakes" reel of all the deleted footage and outtakes.

So there's no reason they couldn't have done the same here. We don't need hundreds of 5-second clips to be viewed individually - just put them all together into a "lost footage" segment. We don't need them mixed into a documentary to see them.

Maybe they're trying to make all the money to fund a DS9 HD restoration off of this one release.

I hadn't known about that kind of presentation done before. I'm guessing these were included when these shows were initially released on DVD, making that convenient to include. With the Trek series already out before these were put together, they couldn't do that, except with the 50th anniversary set, which they obviously chose not to do. If it was exclusive to the 50th anniversary set, I'd give up ever seeing them cuz there was no way I'd need to buy all those duplicate discs, already owning them on blu and DVD.

Well, I hadn't heard of the origins blu-ray until it was mentioned in this thread. It seems the episodes on that disc look better due to the grain. Of course those only include the new CGI effects. So I don't know - on the one hand, I'd love to see the episodes re-issued with the grain intact like the origins disc. On the other hand, I'd be frustrated to have to buy the set again, and likely wouldn't unless there was a significant discount. Perhaps they could offer a discount to the many fans who already own the current discs? Not sure how smoothly that would go though. It's kind of a mess honestly. Now they have these new-found clips. I don't know how it would have worked out best.

I think I'll wait to see how much Amazon discounts that MSRP, 'cause... Yikes. This is a pretty accurate depiction of my face when I clicked the pre-order notification link in the email Blu-Ray.com sent me:

Was definitely not expecting that for essentially a compilation release.

Hasn't dropped to twenty bucks yet?

I don't think Target or Best Buy will carry this -- certainly not advertise it in the paper. Meaning Amazon won't have to price match anybody.

3 days from release and Amazon has not discounted the 50th anniversary set one penney. Still $208.99. They are pretending Best Buy and Bullmoose don't exist.

Come to think of it, Bull Moose will probably have a great deal on this... I got the TNG box set from them for $99 on release day. I live about a mile from one of their locations so I might not preorder but instead just go pick it up at the store.

They could do a Kickstarter or Gofundme; knowing Trek fans, they'd probably hit the target amount within a week.

Wow, I was expecting $20 or something. I paid less for the complete series Blu-ray.
It'll have to be a pass for now.

Interested in this for 40$ max, even though I would have preferred a disc of just the special features. I only paid 60 for the whole series, ao...

yeah that's ridiculous. I was figuring $29.99 list, with a real price of $24.99 to $19.99. They're not going to sell any of these.

Ha ha ha, CBS can **** right off with that list price. It'll come down I'm sure, but it'll still be in the $40-$50 range which is too rich for my blood.

I don't know if it's too expensive really, but I know I don't care enough about TOS to buy it at that price. I'm more a TNG era guy, and am fairly sure there are some TOS episodes I have only seen once. It's a fun show, but not my thing anywhere near as much as the others.
