Blood Simple Blu-ray REVIEW

Spectacular 4K remaster. Too bad Criterion are not in a position to also save The Big Lebowski.

BUY Blood Simple, you are in for quite a treat!

I'm thinking that they'll be on Monday or Tuesday, but I hope that I'm wrong.

I'd love a Blu-ray of Elevator to the Gallows.

I also want Jacques Tourneur's Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon.

Even though I just ordered the UK release I hope your prediction for a Criterion edition comes to fruition. I love this film so much and have been very frustrated it still hasn't been released in the US. A Criterion release would be a dream come true. Another one I hope to see is an upgrade for The Element of Crime.

Please Criterion, announce Stalker and I still have time to cancel the AE version. And some Bergman upgrades, namely the Faith Trilogy. I'm pretty sure they're going to release them one by one, and since TaGD and Winter Light have already been restored (I think?), there's no reason to wait.

Slightly off topic, but is there any Youssef Chahine on blu-ray? I recently saw Cairo Station at a local cinema and it was an absolute revelation! I think it was an old 35mm copy, since the cinema is owned by our national film archive, but the film looked so beautiful and crispy!

Not sure if you knew, but there's a region A friendly release in France. Comes in a nice digipak with a hardcover book (in French)

In case I have missed something (this thread moves quickly sometimes), is there a reason people are talking about Elevator to the Gallows?

I hope they announce His Girl Friday. Would be nice to see them get some more Grant. Feels like I've been waiting ages for Blurays of Arsenic and Old Lace, The Philadelphia story, The Awful Truth or Bringing Up Baby

Also from recent restorations still waiting on Red Beard and Ugetsu

A new restoration has been screening at art houses around the country. Criterion still have the rights to it, so you'd think a BD release is bound to happen sooner or later.

The only announcement I need is the Before Trilogy. I don't need anything else. Just the Before Trilogy...
And His Girl Friday. - The Before Trilogy and His Girl Friday and that's all I need...
And Le Samourai. - The Before Trilogy , His Girl Friday, and Le Samourai, and that's all I need...
Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And Stalker. That's all I need.

Forgot that Multiple Maniacs hasn't come out yet, that could certainly be announced for December too.

Yup, the Faith Trilogy is pretty much my number one want at this point.

Caught a screening of Janus' restored print last night here in Baltimore, with a John Waters introduction and Q&A. As a surprise, lots of other cast and crew members made their way out as well, including Mink Stole, Vincent Peranio, Bob Skidmore, Pat Moran and George Figgs. Nothing particularly new to report about the upcoming disc, but I will say the re-scoring wasn't particularly detrimental and I doubt most will even notice -- and if you've never seen it before, you'd be hard-pressed to suspect anything was even amiss.

Sounds like a great time! I haven't seen the film yet, so as you say, I wouldn't know anything was different.

Yeah, I've been holding out for a proper domestic release, but I might pull the trigger on this one soon.

Yeah, doesn't hurt to wait a little. I only learned that it was region A friendly a few months back. I really love the look of the Wild Side Video releases with the Digipak and hardcover books. Wish I spoke French fluent enough to enjoy them though

Awesome! I've been hoping for this upgrade. Fantastic soundtrack—such a unique mood to this film.

I'd like to see Malle's "The Fire Within" get an upgrade as well.

Hopefully with the corner they've turned, Universal will handle that one soon enough themselves.

Excited about Blood Simple. Great review!
