This may have already been covered, but I got a notice about Suddenly starring Frank Sinatra getting a release in late October. But I'm not sure if it a new packaging of the Image Entertainment release from 2012.

Thought someone in the Los Angeles area might find this of interest so I figured I would pass it along:

I've read the "Berlin Noir" trilogy, and found them very much worth reading. Still haven't gotten around to any of Kerr's "post-war" Bernie Gunther novels, though.

Deep Discount are having a 15% off site wide sale right now, and there's plenty of good noir deals to be had.
They have Kino's Dark Side of Cinema Box set (5-films) for just $27.28 after discount. Apply code FALL15 |

Just reading my copy of that book. I must say it's a very entertaining book in that it focuses on what was said about these films at the time of their release.
What we now consider masterpieces of the genre were not always thought of in glowing terms. It really gave me a whole new outlook on how these films were perceived by critics, gossip columnists and even theater operators. The photographic reproductions are the best I've ever seen in a book on Noir. Highly recommended. As an aside, I started looking up the theaters mentioned in the text. Amazingly some are still operational. Most are closed, but some of the buildings remain. Man, those towns are small. |

Kino have announced plans to release The Scar, aka Hollow Triumph (1948). The Film Detective actually put out a release of this last September, but I'm sure this will trump that one.

Watched Dark Passage for the first time as it popped up as free to view with Amazon Prime. Whoa! Really enjoyed it. I'm still very new to "classic" noir but this is an essential purchase on BD - especially as I've heard rumours that a WB Archive Collection sale is imminent.
Funnily enough, I didn't watch it because it is a noir, but because it is set in San Francisco. I've been on a run of films set in that city, the topography and architecture of which of lend themselves to some great scenes and cinematography. |
