As a collector for many years, I have tons of quirks and habits. Although, I think I'm mainly guilty of everything at the store before I buy it. I like to get superb packaging: no dents, creases, slashes, etc. I often go through multiple copies just to ensure the *perfect* copy.
However, I just love having my collection in alphabetical order. I can understand how other collectors divide their collections, but I love being able to just see what movie I have right away. I remember I used to do by category or genre, and found myself having to look in a couple of spots. Haha I have all of my Blu-rays together, all of my DVDs together, and larger boxed sets together. So far that's worked for me. Although, I'm pretty much out of room in my display ![]() We'll see what happens ![]() |

For my system it's mostly alphabetical unless it's part of a franchise, in which case the franchise name is what gets alphabetized. For example take James Bond: I have all of them in J's organized by release order as opposed to alphabetically such as James Bond 21: Casino Royale, James Bond 22: Quantum of Solace James Bond 23: Skyfall etc.
With the Marvel franchise, since it's kinda extensive, I've got it broken up in the MCU and MTU (again, in release order but keeping the series seasons all together). |

I won't make the same hoarding mistake with bluray, that I did with DVD. So many people buy blurays, just to have them. They watch them once, and then they collect dust. Some people buy them, and never even open them.
So my rules are, I will only buy a movie on bluray if I absolutely love it. And only if I plan to watch it at least 5 times within the net few years. That's my main criteria. I don't care how what percentage it got on rotten tomatoes. Or if it make $2 billion at the box office. I don't care if it's on the AFI list. Or if it's a "classic" that everyone must own. I also will never buy a bluray, just to "upgrade" an existing DVD that I have. But most of them I only ever watched once, or haven't watched the DVD in years, and they're simply collecting dust. |

It's not so bad when you find titles at used media stores or thrift shops which there are a plenty where I live. A lot of the titles in my collection I purchased for $2-$6. I don't buy new release titles at retailers until they've gone on sale unless it's a highly anticipated Disney/Marvel/etc. title that may be limited or rarely goes on sale. |

I don't alphabetize. I tried it but it just looked weird with all the different packaging sizes and types - for example, I didn't like having the big Citizen Kane ultimate collector's edition box surrounded by smaller standard blu-ray cases. Now I organize based on packaging.

If I want to see something, I'll rent it from amazon. It's instant, and cheap for new movies. |

My wife should be glad my quirks are so low key compared to some of you folks
![]() I try not to do too many weird things, the first shelf starts with my Criterion titles in spine order, then my Fox Studio Classics in spine order, then anime in alphabetical order (with sequels and such next to the first), then everything else in alphabetical order with franchises grouped together. I only have the Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig Bond movies so Brosnan's start in the G's with Goldeneye and Craig's in the Cs with Casino Royale. All the Batman flicks are together, starting with the old Adam West movie and then going chronologically. Superman movies are all together (I have Man of Steel here also, that might change if I bother with the rest of that movie's franchise). All the Xmen films are in release order, including the Wolverine and Deadpool films. |

In addition to my quirk about only purchasing movies with subtitles...
I have the horrible habit of buying a movie, deciding i don't like it and selling it. and then months or years later buying it again sometimes for more than i sold it for. ![]() |

Regret selling, I've been there. It took me a while to realize that in many cases it takes a bit of time after viewing a movie for the first time for it to truly sink in and sometimes I need a second or third viewing to truly appreciate it, thus I don't do the buying and selling anymore. Unless it's a truly wretched movie, I'll just keep it, it's more economical in the long run.
