Yes, there is a connection between 3-D, Jerry Lewis and Star Trek!

Has anyone bought/seen anything from the Australian ebay seller buywellsellwell ?

If I'm to die before these films get proper 3D blu ray releases, I figure I may as well watch the best 3D versions out there.

Are these the best versions? I have my suspicions...

I haven't bought or seen one and can't attest to the compression quality, but some of his blu-rays are SBS conversions of old field sequential DVDs. I think both Hannah Lee and The French Line had rare field sequential VHS releases back in the 80s. Others of his, like The Charge at Feather River, are auto-conversions so beware of movies that have had no past DVD version. It's a shame they aren't available properly. Fingers crossed that WB isn't done with their restorations as The Bounty Hunter and The Command are legitimately good movies, even in 2D, that desperately need to make their 3D premieres.

List of movies released on 3D VHS:

I agree completely, BO11, but I highly doubt that we'll ever see a 3D version of "The Command". While an OCN for both eyes exists with Warner, it looks like the 3rd element needed, the soundtrack, is probably not around anymore. No optical track was ever made, and you know about the longevity of mag tracks. Bob F. expressed he didn't know one way or another and that bodes ill. There is a good flat DVD of the 'scope version, and we might get that later in Blu, but I suspect that that will be it. Anybody who might know different about that soundtrack, please speak up; I would love to "stand corrected"!

He bought all of his 3D titles that came from 3D Field Sequential DVD's from me. So that's at the minimum three generations. Then he has to convert those to side-by-side, fourth generation. When he makes a copy and sells it to you, that's fifth generation. Yes, they look terrible.

Another Golden Age classic is coming to 3-D Blu-ray and the announcement will be made next week!

I'll give you one hint: John Payne was originally cast in the lead but was not available due to a scheduling conflict with his work in Edward Small's production of 99 RIVER STREET. Can anyone guess the title?

Alright! I'd guess The Maze or something else in Kino's new Paramount deal.

My guess will be I, The Jury. Both it and 99 River St were released in August '53, both are film noirs.

Although I don't think that title is with either Paramount or Universal, so it'd be an unexpected and welcome surprise if it turns out to be the case.

John Payne was pretty good at playing tough guys, so I'd like it to be I, the Jury.

It's an instant buy for me, whatever it is.

It will be a real shame if it's going to be region locked though, I feel sorry for everyone in Region B unable to watch all these classic vintage 3D releases... I give high praise to the gods for It Came From Outer Space though...

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say Payne was up for Jack Palance's lead in "Flight to Tangier", a Paramount/Kino deal.

I know you can't say anything about the title 'till next week, Bob, but can you tell us if 3D Archive is doing the restoration/3d master?

99 River Street was produced in March of 1953. Flight to Tangier was produced in May/June 1953, so I don't see how it would conflict with Payne's schedule.

The only Paramount film that would conflict with 99 River Street is Those Redheads From Seattle (1953), which is coincidentally the first non-anamorphic widescreen film produced in addition to being Paramount's first Golden Age 3-D title.

If the film stars Rhonda Fleming, there could be a Region B distributor who may be interested in picking it up.

You might be right, Revgen, I guess you might call it wishful thinking on my part. So if we try to figure the timeline conflicts and the parts that might be appropriate for Payne, and select from the remaining titles from Universal, Paramount, and United Artists, we might make a lucky guess! I think I'll just wait 'till next week.

First non-anamorphic widescreen in the 1950's with the exception of This is Cinerama. Also the following titles were also filmed and released in 70mm 1929-1930:

Happy Days Fox Film Corporation
The Big Trail Fox Film Corporation
The Bat Whispers United Artists Picture

On another site, Bob says "Not seen as originally intended since 1953". That could be Sangaree or Those Redheads From Seattle.

That sounds like a conclusion arrived at by some good deductive thinking. Being one of my favorites, I hope it's "Sangaree", but I'm speculating it's more likely to be "Those Redheads from Seattle". Amongst other reasons, I can't see John Payne subbing in for Fernando Lamas!

On the 3D Film Archive Facebook page

Quote:
Here's another clue: the script was the subject of a lawsuit...
Hannah Lee was the subject of a lawsuit and countersuit by Producer Jack Broder and Director John Ireland.

Quote:
According to various contemporary news items, then husband and wife team John Ireland and Joanne Dru filed a lawsuit against the production company for unpaid profits to which they claimed entitlement, and for lack of sufficient publicity. Jack Broder Productions filed a countersuit alleging that Ireland, who directed and produced the film in association with Lee Garmes, overshot the production budget due to changes in the script and delays in filming. The final outcome of the lawsuit has not been determined. Hannah Lee marked Ireland's feature film directorial debut. Actor Peter Ireland is the son of the director and his first wife, Elaine.
