However, if the raw scan transfer is available, a suitable high-grain master for physical media release could have also been rendered.

Of course, but rarely even do movies shown on HDTV display this extreme level of DNR processing. For Blu-ray, it just harms the quality and watchability. You can easily tell while watching it that the DNR processing was turned up to max to remove any traces of grain. Probably the only reason why some good detail even remains is that it was a 4K transfer. A raw transfer (or at least minimal DNR used) would have been far, far better for the format.
