I suppose they kept a candle burning for 3-D during the dark years. It wasn't about jumping on the 3-D bandwagon, or cashing in on the 'fad'. These films may not always have been the most prestigious efforts, but their existence demonstrates that interest in 3-D never fully goes away.

I'd certainly like to see films such as these two get the go ahead while their stars are still with us.

I hope Universal will give serious consideration to releasing their four remaining vintage features to Blu-Ray, with the participation of Bob and Greg and the Archive. All four are very worthwhile films with something to offer audiences today.

I am very happy that Kino Lorber intends to release the bulk of the Paramount library, with the participation of Bob and Greg and the Archive. If someone were to ask me the order in which the remaining titles ought to be released, I would give them this list:
1. The Maze (assuming it's on the table)
2. Sangaree
3. Jivaro
4. Flight to Tangier (one of my least favorite 3-D films of the 1950s—but you may put me down for two copies on Day One!)
5. Cease Fire! (I commend those brave soldiers for everything except their screen acting)
As far as other titles held by other studios: If there's one thing I have learned about my friends Bob Furmanek and Greg Kintz, they simply do not give up. They always keep hope, they always press forward, they always pour their heart into every aspect of the work, they always persevere. They are winsome ambassadors for classic stereoscopic cinema, and they are gaining the attention of all sorts of important people. I counsel all of us, myself included, never to give in to a spirit of despair concerning this or that particular vintage 3-D title. You never know what tomorrow will bring, especially with Bob and Greg on the job!
Couple of comments/questions, Bavanut:

Do you consider "Stewardesses" porn? It's borderline for me. And I would put "Sangaree" on the top. I agree "Tangier" was a disappointment, especially as I'm a big Jack Palance fan. And how do you know about "Cease Fire" acting? I've never been able to find a copy.

Here's a wild guess: Bob's use of the words "significant" and "pursuing for years" lead me to be wildly optimistic and say "Hondo" and "Money from Home"!

Yes, Warren, I happen to consider The Stewardesses softcore pornography. Definitely not my thing. To give everyone a laugh, I posted Maria's amusing remark a few days ago, that I could buy a copy as long as I never, ever remove the shrink wrap. But I will actually not be buying a copy of that flick at all, ever. My objections are part moral and part aesthetic; it's not only a skin flick, it's a very odd and poorly done skin flick.

(I acknowledge that The Stewardesses is a very significant 3-D title and ought to be preserved for historical reasons, and I absolutely do not condemn anyone for wishing to own it and see it for themselves.)

I won't fault you for putting Sangaree at the top of the Paramount list. It's quite a spirited movie with a fun cast. I happen to like Jivaro quite a bit too. In my view, Flight to Tangier is let down by the casting of Joan Fontaine and by the fact that, well, things get real boring. (Just my opinion, and I reserve the right to change it when the film hits Blu-Ray.) As for Cease Fire!, I saw it in 3-D at Expo II in Hollywood, and until recently one could stream it in 2-D on Amazon Video. I really mean no disrespect to any of our brave personnel who saved South Korea, but the leads in that film are all real soldiers with zero acting experience, and it shows. Boy, does it show. But, again, put me down for two copies on Day One, and stand back in case I change my mind and start raving how much I love it now.

These sure are fun questions, Warren, and I look forward to hearing what others have to say as well.

Hondo has already been restored so 3D Film Archive would not be working on that. Money from Home could be possible.

Unbelievable to have a good vintage 3D flick like Hondo already restored and not out on bluray yet, meanwhile having things like the Stewardesses and September Storm coming out soon. Boggles the mind.

Yeah, Bavanut, I agree that "The Stewardesses" is softcore and rather poor softcore, but I'm following your original plan and buying it to support old 3D and leaving the shrink wrap on. Saw it once in the theater and that was enough!

Never seen "Jivaro" and I am deliberately avoiding seeing any more "Golden Age" films flat until I can see them in 3D. Held on to a flat DVD copy of "Kiss Me Kate" for quite a while and waited until the 3D Blu came out. What a reward it was to see it first time in Blu-ray 3D! I don't think "Tangier" will improve much with 3D Blu, Fontaine kinda sucks, it does get boring, and as good as Jack P. is, he can't make up for those deficiencies. In the long run, I will still buy anything in the "Golden Age" and watch it. Even if only once, 'cause I don't like it. Will probably also go for the "Placeholders" as I call them, and then eventually the "Silver Age" ones of the '80's. But count me out for most of today's 21st century digitals with the exceptions of those that I would buy anyway, 3D or not.

Wow! I just saw where infiniteCR's posting was the whole movie of "Cease Fire". I must force myself to resist the temptation and wait until it happens in 3D!(LOL)

Hey any reason why Command, Bounty Hunter and Devil's Canyon not here? I figure Hannah Lee is out (though from same source as RM and CWoTM) and Top Banana is lost (like some of Southwest Passage).

The Command was only released in 2D CinemaScope. I don't think that will be ever be released in 3D. The Bounty Hunter has missing elements. Sorry I was thinking of Inferno when I skipped Devil's Canyon.

Agree about "The Command", Cinerama. While the complete 3D OCN's exist with Warner, the film has never been edited. This means all the post production work and costs would be there in addition to the restoration/3D mastering work and costs. Then there's the issue of the sound track. Can't use the 'scope one as it's from a different filming. And do the mags exist at all for the dialog? No looping/dubbing, the actors are dead. And using the music and sound effects/foley from the 'scope version would only be possible if those tracks still exist separately. So we're probably talking sound track from scratch. I'm not saying that it can't be done, just that it won't be done. Now if we were talking about some long forgotten 3D OCN's for say, "The Ten Commandments", that would most likely be a different story!(LOL)

"The Bounty Hunter" has missing elements? What's your source on that?

Bob,

Do you know if Twilight Time's The Three Stooges shorts will be in Sepia Tone?

I hope not, but I know others hope that it will.

I will be happy and not complain about either way
(so long as the transfers are good),
but I confess to not caring for sepia tone.
