I noticed that there was not a dedicated thread for this player and having a street date of October 28 (not exactly positive on this) many people can or will be purchasing this in the near future.
Here is the blu-ray.com link to the player: https://www.blu-ray.com/players/players.php?id=93 Here is a cnet.com review: http://reviews.cnet.com/video-player...-33248632.html Lastly, there are other threads that should be merged with this one like: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...highlight=bd35 and maybe this one: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...highlight=bd35 Mine just shipped from Amazon so I will post a review and pictures as soon as I get it. A sticky on this thread also seems appropriate for easy access (thanks mods in advance). Last edited by matthewrounds; 10-28-2008 at 07:27 PM. |

Hey Guys, just discovered on panasonic.com that when you buy a BD35k you can get The Nightmare Before Christmas and Ratatouille free by mail. You print and fill out a form, cut out the upc from the box and mail a copy of the original reciept to the address on the form.

I just found out that you need an SD card inserted to get the BD-Live to work.
I had the same problem with my BD55 and I just bought a card and installed it. Now BD-Live works fine. |

I am new to Blu-ray and wow, its incredible. I was was about to buy the BD30 and then saw the BD35 was coming out, with BD Live for the same price so I held out for the BD35.
I bought the unit, took it home, set it up and flat line... DOA, no bringing this thing back to life. I would put a BD disc in and I would hear it start to spin, then click click click, spin click click click, then a mesage disk is unreadable. I thought hmmm maybe I have a bad disk. I got the Departed on Blu-ray, it was the only BD I had so I put a standard DVD in and same spin click spin click. I plugged the unit into my home network, Firmware 1.5 avail, I am like cool, hope this fixes it. Still no go. took the unit back, it was happily replaced by the place I bought it, Take two.... BREATHTAKING! I have a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma and the picture is nothing less than brilliant! Even my wife, when she got home, and who was a little unsure how much better the picture would be was astonished. Very good player for the price. It got the first ever CNet Editors choice award for a standalone player! As for the two free BD's thanks for the tip. I am going to send for those tonight, I almost bought Ratatouille and glad I held off! I did get Madagascar and that is totally amazing picture.. I am so happy I found this website. I have used its reviews to decide which BD's I will get. So I Highly recommend this player. I love the veira link which allows me to control both my TV and BD35 from the same remote. I think the remote that comes with the BD35 is a very nice remote. One of the coolest features I have found so far is the PIP secondary audio. I bought the Risky Business BD and to see Tom Cruise with the director and producer sitting there "watching the movie with you" and commenting is really cool. I do not have any BD Live movies yet so I have not been able to test that out yet. Jeff |

I am just using the HDMI cable for both Video and Audio. I do not have a surround sound system yet. So I am not bit-streaming the audio out. That is a good question, something that would be good to know for eventually when I talk my wife into letting me get a surround sound system :-)

That's not a flaw in the BD30 design - it's how its supposed to work. In order to get the secondary audio (e.g. the commentary audio track when viewing a BR profile 1.1 release) you need to go into the set-up menu of the BD30 and set secondary audio to "ON". That will then downmix the film's audio trach along with the comemntary track so you can hear both when viewing the Bonus View content. It would be nice is Panasonic allowed you to toggle that option from the remote rather than having to go into the set-up menu every time but it's not a design flaw.

I have a bd30 in the past I have gone in and disable the bitstream to get the pip to work. I now have the 2.5 firmware update and when watching the pip for Sleeping Beauty I did not have to do anything and it worked. Maybe that issue is now fixed with the 2.5 update. I have not tried to go back to any other titles that have the pip feature so not sure if its just good for Sleepign Beauty

Right. With secondary audio set to "ON", you will lose the hi-rez audio capability and in its place get the legacy DD or DTS film sound track mixed with the audio commentary. No big deal in my opinion because with the commentary blabbing away, why would you care if the movie audio is hi-rez?

No, because it bitstreams the lossless TrueHD and DTS Master Audio just fine.
So that is not at issue. I still suspect that 2.5 fixed the need to shut off the secondary audio or maybe an early firmware update did. Because on my player it does play the PIP on Sleeping beauty but when watching the PIP feature it does not play the lossless sound. |

Yes, that is what should happen according to the BD30 manual. With Secondary audio ON, the player mixes the commentary track with the movie audio track on outputs it as lossy DD or DTS. The only way to retain the hi-rez audio with the commentary track activated is with one of the new internal decoding players (like the BD35 or BD55). But in my opinion, when listening to the commentary track (blah, blah, blah) why would you need hi-rez audio from the film's sound track anyway? I rarely listen to the commentary track so it is of little import to me.

After doing a lot of research on the Panasonic DMP-BD35 I see many are having this problem where their HDTV is capable of displaying 24p yet maybe does not communicate this fact over the HDMI so the Panasonic player simply thinks the display can't do it and grays out the menu item. This is a pretty stupid feature.
When the days of HiDef first started you could set the Pscan DVD player to progressive and if your TV could not do it you just got a blank or scrambled screen in which case you simply reset the unit. I understand these companies are trying to limit support calls by idiot proofing their products but what good is doing this if the unit may not get used with other idiot proofed components? Here's another thought -- what if you plug your components into an HDMI capable receiver? Does the DMP-BD35 behave the same and ignore the 24p if it does not get a special signal? I have an ancient HL-T6187S DLP LED (11 months old) and you know there is no way in heck Samsung will support or update this TV anymore after this year. I even sent them a question by email and the email form listed a whole mess of TV models but not this atrifact. I understand, this model IS a whole 1.5 years old. I will continue to fruitlessly fiddle with the 24p setting but as of now see no resolution in site (other than plugging the Blu-Ray player into a newer TV, setting the item to YES, and then switching back to my old, old box). |

Exactly. This is the flaw with bitstream only type players. This is where the benefit of players like the BD35, with internal decoding, comes in.
