Default the matrix blu-ray...black boarders on a hdtv?

I bought the matrix ultimate collection on blu-ray the day it hit....I have been waiting for it forever.

FINALLY!

The quality is top notch..I love blu-ray..but...

I wish the matrix filled my widescreen hdtv...it has black boarders top and bottom.... letter box on a 16:9 tv...

Theater setup:
LG 50PG60 1080P HDTV
Sony PS3 (newest firmware)
Marantz 5002 receiver
paradigm monitor 9 front speakers, paradigm cc290 center channel, paradigm titan rears, paradigm 12" sub....

i wish it was full widescreen. anyone know a solution to this, or will it be always letterbox?

Not many movies are shot in 16:9 (1.78:1) Usually 1.85:1, 2.35:1 and 2.4:1 - all of those formats require black bars at the top and bottom on a 16:9 TV without cropping the image.

Blu-Ray discs quite often hold the film in an aspect ratio smaller than 16:9. It's one of the reason I wish Blu-Ray had been anamophic only and TV manufacturers had started to make 2.35:1 sets. Imagine proper PiP commentaries where half the screen is that and the other is the movie!

I was in Harlem, NY yesterday. I saw several black bars there. I am not joking (nor trying to make a derogatory remark).
