Sony just needs to think of a way to transfer the games that come on PS4 discs over to the Vita. It also needs the version contained on the Vita to be scaled to the hardware in the Vita which would result in a smaller file size. To do this it would need to scrap the ridicules proprietary memory cards that have dogged the Vita all along.

Ultra HD Blu-ray is doing a similar thing with it's Digital Bridge feature. The next PlayStation needs something like this as does the next Nintendo and Xbox http://us.seeqvault.com/

At the minute you can stream a game from the PS4 to the Vita but you can't take it too far from the consoles a file contained on the Vita would solve this.

From disc to device: Under Blu-ray's next Digital Bridge: this article explains it.

Nvidia provide the graphics for the Switch.

The first thing to know about the new Nintendo Switch home gaming system: it’s really fun to play. With great graphics, loads of game titles and incredible performance, the Nintendo Switch will provide people with many hours of engaging and interactive gaming entertainment.
But creating a device so fun required some serious engineering. The development encompassed 500 man-years of effort across every facet of creating a new gaming platform: algorithms, computer architecture, system design, system software, APIs, game engines and peripherals. They all had to be rethought and redesigned for Nintendo to deliver the best experience for gamers, whether they’re in the living room or on the move.

A Console Architecture for the Living Room and Beyond

Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.
The Nintendo Switch’s gaming experience is also supported by fully custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries. NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance. The newest API, NVN, was built specifically to bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses.
Gameplay is further enhanced by hardware-accelerated video playback and custom software for audio effects and rendering.
We’ve optimized the full suite of hardware and software for gaming and mobile use cases. This includes custom operating system integration with the GPU to increase both performance and efficiency.
NVIDIA gaming technology is integrated into all aspects of the new Nintendo Switch home gaming system, which promises to deliver a great experience to gamers.
The Nintendo Switch will be available in March 2017. More information is available at https://www.nintendo.com/switch.
Nintendo Switch is a trademark of Nintendo.
Wow they really made sure we understood that the chipset is highly customized. I wonder in terms of real world performance though, how exactly does it stack up to the PS4/X1. That's really all I want to know. CAN it run the same games that are on the current gen hardware and run it as well or better?

My big question is what purpose does the dock serve other than what looks like USB ports, charging and hooking it to the tv? Is there any hardware inside that boosts the handheld when docked or is it mostly a large hunk of plastic?

Just the opposite.
They are appealing to the hard core gamers!

The Dock is the main unit.
The games will look significantly better on the TV.
The games will look damned good on the hablet

Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch consoles together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.
This is also interesting. Notice it does not say Joy Cons but Switch consoles. Drop in and drop out with your portable at a friends house? That ****ing neat.

24 minute mark (so many developers for wii u). If you keep going, EA support is talked about but that ended quickly:

I'm not trying to be a "naysayer", just have felt a little burnt from the past

Wait, so there's tech in the dock station as well as the handheld? Hmmm, I'm intrigued! I assumed all of the raw power was in the handheld and the dock just acted as a charging station and a means to project the image onto the TV.

Yes.
Bethesda just a few months ago said they would never work with nintendo unless the specs were there.
This thing will be just as powerful as the XB and PS4.
Maybe even more so...

I don't know the specs of the Scorpio or the PS4pro, so I can't comment on those...

Hablet. I like that! Like a tablet that you can carry with a handle. I would copyright that mate before Apple gets hold of it.

Why can't they just make one kick ass console instead of trying to pull off all these gimmicks. It just looks like a mobile Wii U with ridiculously tiny detachable controllers.

The Switch isn't as powerful as the Pro or Scorpio. Anyone thinking/hoping that is the case needs to let that go.

Personally, I don't need it to be. I will have ps pro for that by then.

I don't see a gimmick here. This is the most straight forward console they've revealed since the Gamecube and GBA

The mobility and the reconfiguring of controls scream gimmick to me. Just give me a console and controller. Leave the mobile crap to ds

OK, here you go! If you don't care about the mobile functionality then don't use it as such. You're not being forced to do so.

So buy a Pro controller and don't remove it from the dock?

Then leave the tablet in the damned dock.
