Holy cow, that looks good. But, I didn't work out for three hours this morning for nothing. I'm just going to forget I saw that.

Sorry for the late reply here.

I was an idiot. I wasn't expecting it to deliver until that Monday, but I got it on Saturday. My roommates received it, but they put the package in a different location than normal. Thanks for the reply!

I've been thinking about picking up Cat People next week at The Noble, but I'm concerned that the subject matter might hit a little too close to home for me.

I've been dating a woman for the past eight months and about three days a month she turns into a panther.

...so this has happened seven or eight times since I've been with her.

If my calculations are correct, she should be coming up on another transformation sometime this weekend...starting to do the over heat thing. A few times she's gone pre panther and accused me of getting the bed too warm and starts flinging the blankets everywhere..wtf! Three times I've woken up with scratch marks on my back and no memory of how they got there.

My guitar and tv room has a small fridge but it can only hold about 4 days worth of food and beer. I'm thinking when she hits full blown menopause I could attempt to chain her outside. but in our area we have black bears and coyotes...when she's in her condition she would attract them.

...I would then worry about the safety of the bears and coyotes.

So I don't know if any cat-related movies are good for me right now.

I have enough trouble sleeping as it is.

Here's another random Criterion topic that happened to cross my mind...

Which Criterions do you own that feature two versions of the film?

I think the only ones I have are:

Contains the 133 minute version and the rarer "director preferred" 127 minute version.

Contains the original Japanese film from 1954 and the "American Cut" from 1956 titled "King Of The Monsters".

I'm sure more are out there than just these, but I believe they are the only two I actually own.

Well, the first one that comes to mind is Fanny and Alexander. But that has the 189 minute theatrical version, and the 322 minute TV version. So, that's a bit ... different than what you were asking.

There might be something I'm forgetting.

In response, I wrote this open letter encouraging the inclusion of fully-accessible captioning on their upcoming streaming website, FilmStruck. I wholly agree with this. It does not affect me as much as, say, a person who is deaf of really hard of hearing, but as a non-native English speaker it can be jarring when you're used to watching a foreign film and having a scene in English suddenly come up, which is not subtitled (for instance, in Before the Rain). Other times, I have to watch films with subtitles on because I tend to watch them very late at night, and audio that is even slightly loud could wake up my family members. Also, I've often imagined what it would be to be a deaf cinephile and not being able to appreciate special features such as interviews and visual essays on Criterion-issued movies, as they are not subtitled either (that is, if they are in English or feature certain portions in English). It's a shame.

I realise that subtitling all of their content would probably mean that they would have to make an additional investment per Blu-Ray/DVD, but since they already pay for subtitles for subtitles and translations, how much more costly could it be? Even YouTube videos from succesful channels are subtitled nowadays.

I wish you the best in realising this endeavour.

I say we bombard Mulvaney with e-mails about this

Although I am pretty sure that everyone who really cares about this has already done that.

I never even got a response back in 2013 maybe It's time I send a reply with a BUMP

Brazil has the 142 minute director's cut and the 94 minute travesty that is the "Love Conquers All" edit.

Jour De Fete and Monsieur Hulot's Holiday also have alternate cuts on them as does the Killing Of a Chinese Bookie.

My darling Clementine has two edits of the film, as does The Gold Rush. On the Waterfront has several versions too.

Then there's The New World of course

It's actually surprising how many there are!

Oh, that's right, I forgot "The Gold Rush" has two versions. That's one of my favorites of the 20's.
