United Kingdom 14 Hammer Films (Sony) coming from Powerhouse

Posted elsewhere:

Got this reply from Powerhouse films this morning. (Powerhouse just released Christine and Body Double in the UK in loaded editions)

"Hi Craig, yes we have 14 Hammer Films from the Sony Pictures stable. We are huge fans of Hammer, so can't wait to get working on them. Probably be mid 2017. Watch this space"

Can't even think of 14 Hammer movies that are with Sony. Will be interesting to see what extras they put together. The current Sony Hammer DVDs are light regarding on disc extras but do come with good booklets.

Let's see:

The Gorgon
Taste of Fear
Two Faces of Dr Jekyll
Revenge of Frankenstein
The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb
Stop Me Before I Kill
Never Take Candy from a Stranger
The Maniac
Fanatic
Cash on Demand
The Damned
Yesterday's Enemy
Creatures the World Forgot
The Camp on Blood Island

Snorkel
The Pirates of Blood River
The Devil-Ship Pirates
The Stranglers of Bombay
The Terror of the Tongs
The Brigand of Kandahar
Passport to China

21 there. Any more? I've emboldened the 14 I think (hope?) they have.

In my opinion these are all fantastic:
Taste Of Fear
Never Take Sweets From A Stranger
The Snorkel
The Maniac
Cash On Demand
The Damned
The Stranglers Of Bombay
Yesterday's Enemy
Camp On Blood Island

If all of these are to be included, I will be very happy!

You wonder if they might follow Sony's lead (in the US) and release themed box-sets - horror, thriller, historical/adventure, war maybe.

I'm just interested in The Gorgon, The Damned, Stranglers of Bombay, and Die Die My Darling (can't get enough Tallullah!) so I hope these are individual releases.

Well Torture Garden is with Sony here so is entirely possible. Has anyone asked Indicator about this title?

Torture Garden would be great. Asylum and The House That Dripped Blood would be even better.

I too would love Asylum (as well as And Now The Screaming Starts). Not sure who these are with in the UK I'm afraid (unless Odeon/Screenbound, given that they have Dr Terror's). I think Asylum and Screaming might be with Dark Sky in the US; given that Arrow have released Dark Sky titles in the past maybe they could work something out?

I'd love The Pirates Of Blood River on Blu-ray, then I could run it as a support to Mysterious Island & re-create the double bill I saw in 1962 (as an 11 year old). I have good looking DVD's of most of the titles listed, but would be very happy to buy good looking Blu-rays of most of the titles on that list, esp. Terror Of The Tongs & The Damned, & I'd double dip on those Mill Creek releases, so...bring 'em on

3 Icons of Horror/Suspense/Adventures collections that Sony released comprise of 14 films, so they might be the ones Indicator will release. This excludes The Revenge of Frankenstein, but this one needs a serious restoration work, so it is not Blu-ray worthy at the moment.

I would love to see my skepticism put to shame, but I think the most realistic scenario is that Sony will provide Powerhouse with the same transfers used in the US. On the positive side, we will almost certainly see much better compression than the lacklustre Mills Creek releases and English subtitles.

Better compression and subs would alone would be enough for me to double-dip on the Mills Creek titles.
