I thought the 3D in Beyond was very flat at the cinema however i'll still be buying the 3D blu ray. Got to support 3D blu ray every time, even with this disappointing presentation.

I could literally never bring myself to buy a 2D blu ray of a movie I know is available on 3D blu ray.

The weakest were Ratchet & Clank and that limited release conversion of Creed they released in Feburary, but given how under the radar the 3D releases on those films were, wasn't expecting much from them.

The biggest disappointment given it was a high budget/profile film and I really liked the 3D on the previous film was Star Trek Beyond (also, while I thought the 3D was better than Beyond's, was disappointed in Jungle Book given reviews and press article frequently mentioned the 3D which often isn't the case even with stronger 3D titles, and thus probably won't bother double dipping with the 3D blu now coming out despite really liking the movie itself)

Resurgence? I thought the 3D was great! I also enjoyed the 3D in Huntsman: Winters War. I must have a super 3D TV or my eyes were made for enhancing 3D. lol.
I have the new Star Trek but have not watched it yet but will comment on this thread when I do so.

I'd agree with that, except for crappy autoconversions.

But I'd go a step further - I can't bring myself to buy a 2D blu ray of a movie I know was released theatrically in 3D, even if there is no 3D blu ray... The Scorch Trials, Ip Man 3, Pete's Dragon etc etc

Hi Levcore,

Then my bad. It suddenly came on HBO Demand so assumed it was a release from this year.

Also misunderstood the original question. Thought it was about the movie overall, taking in both plot and 3D. Depth wasn't bad, even watching it through TV. But the story... LOL

Hi dartfrog,

Yeah, I liked the 3D in Resurgence also and actually thought the movie was quite good - didn't deserve the bad reviews it got. Not up to par with the first one but nicely done and certainly can stand up on it's own as a good sequal.

Have Winter's War but have not got around to watching it yet. Saw ST Beyond twice - was disappointed in the 3D the first time and was wondering what was wrong so re-adjusted my settings a bit and then it went from impulse power to warp speed!

Make that three. In fact, some that were never 3D to begin with I try to simulate. If good, continue watching in that mode.

Again it's a 3D movie theatrically vs. 3D experience at home difference. And there are several movies being better w/latter.

Agreed. That applies to most films nowadays. I know several members here don't even bother with theatrical 3-D anymore.

I apologize. I meant to say that the 3D for the film was weak as well.

80%, that's a nice number, but hopefully movie fans have a choice of 3D or 2D, since not everyone can see in 3D or can afford it.

It's a mild conversion that doesn't do 3D any favors, but it's there if you find it at the right price.

I have trouble with that also. Only time I'd avoid a certain blu ray 3D movie is if I didn't care for the movie and it had mild 3D, and then found it for a low price on 2D, which is very rare. Most times I'll buy the 3D version also if the movie is worth buying.

If it's a good movie with mild 3D, I'd still buy the 3D version, but really write to and request a stronger 3D experience from the creators for their next film (as I did with Ratchet & Clank 3D, who are working on Sly Cooper 3D next...).

I enjoyed the medium to strong 3D in Resurgence too. I can imagine the project or seating angle for those against it may have played a role in a mild perception of the film's 3D.

I had to re-read Creed's reply post and then I saw he highlighted Huntman's Winter's War, but glad to see Creed confirmed he was referring to the movie's 3D, and not MercurySeven's post which is helpful.

My bad, Creed! I missed where you highlighted The Huntsman in your quote. I'll take care to read more closely in future, buddy. There are plenty of nasty users online these days, but you're clearly not one. On the contrary, I always enjoy reading your posts, and I hope you'll keep on keeping us up-to-date on all things 3-D!

I remember Creed mentioned in the Huntsman thread about the limited conversion 3D not being very good, so I'll avoid that on blu ray 3D if I ever see it, unless it's on sale of course.

Here's hoping for more impressive 3D overall in 2017. I liked the 3D offerings in 2016 for the most part so far.

I really hope that Power Rangers is in 3D but I'm losing faith the closer we get to release. Lionsgate's been trending away from 3D for big blockbusters, it seems (Allegiant being 2D when Insurgent was 3D, no US release of Mockingjay Part 2 in 3D, no 3D for Deepwater Horizon or the Now You See Me flicks)...

Yes apart from auto conversions, I tend not to count those as proper 3D blu rays though lol.

I thought the 3D in Huntsman was OK, fine to be honest. Not great but certainly not terrible. Probably better than Star Trek Beyond (although I need to rewatch that on disc). It's worth checking out on 3D blu ray and making up your own mind.

I wouldn't put The Huntsman: Winter's War as one of the weakest of the year, the Chinese conversions I watched (like Cold War II) were much worse. As for Western conversions, The Legend of Tarzan is probably the least impressive of this year's batch, though I haven't seen Star Trek Beyond.

I'd have to put The Jungle Book as the most disappointing real 3D movie of the year. Jon Favreau talked a lot about Avatar but made no effort to match that film's immersive 3D.

I'm sure Finding Dory will be the most disappointing animated film, but Zootopia is a tough one to beat for conservative 3D.

Yeah The Jungle Book was a real let down in 3D. But that's Disney for you. Finding Dory 3D was much better then Finding Nemo 3D but still was not strong. While The Huntsman: Winter's War was really good in 3D.
