Region Coding: Region Free A,B,C

COWBOY BEBOP: THE MOVIE (BLU-RAY)

Release Date: 5 October 2016

Synopsis

The year is 2071. When villains blow up a tanker truck on Highway One, a deadly virus is released, killing hundreds of innocent people. This is merely the beginning of a greater threat to human kind and, fearing a more devastating biochemical attack, a significant reward is offered for the successful capture and arrest of the evil culprits.

Bored with their current situation Spike and his rag-tag crew of bounty hunters aboard the Spaceship Bebop accept the challenge wholeheartedly – determined to track down the bad guys one way or another and cash in their reward. Ahead of them is an adventure like nothing they have ever imagined.

A cult spin-off from the successful Manga TV series, brought to life by the famed Japanese Sunrise Animation Studios, Cowboy Bebop The Movie is an electrifying full-tilt trip into a vast, colourful and dangerous galaxy.

The 2.0 audio indicates maybe a port of the US Image disc.

I second that.
After the series came out in the UK I was always hoping the movie would make a region B appearance too, but it failed to materialize. Looks like the long wait may soon be over.

According to the database it's region A "locked".

I too have been waiting for a region B version so this pleases me.

Sticking with my DVD. No Surround Sound. No buy.

Seriously though, why can't they just port over the track from the Japanese Blu-Ray?

According to a screenshot of the back of the case I saw on the Madman forums it is in fact surround sound for both languages.

*Orders as fast as he possibly can*

But, really? That's great! I saw on Umbrella Entertainment's website that the audio was 5.1 but here it looked like a port of the american release. Do you have the link to the image?

Cover

Proof in action

Should be noted though that the cover says DTS, but the picture this person provided shows Dolby Digital...

Yeah, IDK. I'm gonna wait off until there's more info out there and I see something that fully confirms this until I get it.

"Thank you for your email.

I have spoken to our Production Team who have advised that the audio for Cowboy Bebop Blu-Ray is English & Japanese 5.1 Dolby Digital.

I can confirm that there is an error with the original packaging/slick that noted the incorrect information of DTS Master Audio which will be rectified upon next replication.

Please let me know if I can assist you any further.

I picked this up today, as it was a fairly decent price ($NZ16.80).

Comes with a reversible cover with no rating logos.

I might pick this up despite the lossy codec. I think this film has one of the best surround tracks, I think I'd prefer it like this over a lossless stereo track.

Thumbs up

Another interesting note when I asked the rep why they didn't use the high def audio from the Japanese release from Bandai Visual. This was the reply.

"Thanks for your reply.

As far I can see in the notes, this type of audio is all we received from Sony."

Seems this Blu-Ray mirrors the US R1 DVD release from Sony Pictures since it contains the same lossy audio in 5.1 and the same special features. Can't comment on the picture quality until I get the movie in the mail.
