Have heard PS3 is power hungry, is it ?
it has no analog outs,

and in regards to power consumption, from what ive heard, a reguar media player (dvd/blu-ray) it would consume 25watts, while a ps3 goes for 120watts.

some players out there cannot decode the higher end formats via multichannel analogs. they just dont have the bandwidth to do so.

you can find quite a load of information about the higher end audio formats being decoded by a non-hdmi receiver here

thanks a bunch jomari, there is a wealth of info in your link.

Also, here is a question....if i get a panny 55 or sony 550 they have 7.1 analong output and my receiver takes a 5.1 analog input, is there a loss of audio in this case ?

its not a matter of losing audio, its just that you dont have 2 channels in your reciever to accomodate the extra surrounds. the 'source' in laymans terms, is still the same. i wouldnt consider it a breaking point for you to reconsider your setup.
