Searched this forum and couldn't find a thread about it so made this one. Delete if there actually is.
Anyway, this is coming out now in 3D and IMAX 3D. Hopefully, it has some strong 3D. Just saw this: ![]() Seeing it in about 2 hours in IMAX 3D and will post my thoughts afterward. |

It would be a nice contrast to the mostly mild 3D of the Harry Potter 3D films, which only have a few scenes of medium to strong 3D among the many flat to mild 3D scenes. Looking forward to the 3D reviews on this. |

Just came out of the film. Really enjoyed it, great start to the franchise. On to the 3D (I'm not the best at reviewing this stuff lol).
It was pretty good (IMAX) 3D. The movie starts with a frame break and whenever it happens again (which is fairly often, especially during action sequences), it's a lot of fun and is great 3D pop-out viewing. I just wished that they were more depth in the other scenes, where it goes into mild/medium 3D due to shot selection. I'm glad I saw it in IMAX 3D for the frame break / pop-out moments. There were a few moments where it made me jump in my seat (not sure about other viewers haha). Hopefully, they are intact in the 3D Blu-Ray. |

I have low expectations based on director David Yates track record with the 3D but it's good to hear some positivity regarding the 3D presentation.

Pre-order is up in Germany:
https://www.amazon.de/Phantastische-...390197&sr=1-30 My expectations are low for the 3D in this one, though it's heartening to read that there are some pop-outs for a change... |

To have the Imax compatible scenes on a blu ray disc, guessing that the studio has to pay for the home video rights for the Imax logo and Imax licensed scenes. Imax theaters probably arranges all of that, and then the studio often decides not to extend those rights/features to home video. No other logical reason to cut out the Imax full screen 3D scenes other than that they're using the default master file/roll of the film instead for both 2D and 3D, since standard 3D theaters can't play the Imax formatted scenes and fit it all in screen without spilling beyond the screen borders.

Not much to say about one of the best 3D movies of the year on this site? The 3D was exciting and the movie was very good.

I'll second that, danoldrati. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from the 3-D or the film itself, but both impressed me enough to recommend y'all check out Fantastic Beasts at some point. If not at the cinema then certainly on 3-D blu-ray. I'd liken it to the new Ghostbusters in terms of 3-D; the depth varies, but I lost count of the number of pop-outs. Creatures and objects alike flew out of the screen on a regular basis, and I either flinched or ducked several times. It's a great big funhouse of a movie, set in the jazz era Potterverse. The story veered into some really dark places at times, which didn't quite gel with the sweet and whimsical nature of Newt Scamander's quest. But I enjoyed everything else about it, the magical zoo and the 3-D pop-outs most of all.

Unfortunately for some strange reason my local amc was showing this only in 2d on imax. I went to a normal 3D showing instead. Very enjoyable. Lots of animal pop outs, though I'm sure not as many as in the imax 3D version.
Really liked the story too, so will be looking forward to the next in the series. Was very dark at times, which my local amc doesn't do great with, so will definitely be buying to watch on my own television when it comes out. |

The screening was packed (basically everything but the front three rows were filled, and this is a IMAX with a lot of rows and 500+ seats) even at 10am on Sunday, and overall the audience and group of 5 I was in enjoyed it, even though we all don't feel it is among the best films in the franchise. |

My wife and I went yesterday and we had a great time.
The 3D is the high standard we have today for such high profile movies plus the strong pop outs. Nothing to complain. We enjoyed the movie even more than most Potter films. It is a bit more made for grown-ups and has less cheesy and silly parts that can be found especially in the early Potter instalments. I'm sold. |

and oh how glorious was it! the popping out of the frame aspect was great, although unlike Sony's tinkering with the image for it's 'Ghostbusters' IMAX 3D processing, Warner's didn't compose the shots for 4:3 screens, they extended only out to 1.90 - nonetheless... wow! The audio mix while not as detailed or nuanced as the 7.1 mix I heard the prior week, the 12-channel mix still was forceful when needed to be, the crackling of the walls and the mayhem of the Obscurus were literally hair-raising - it maybe corny to say this, but the IMAX 3D presentation is literally an 'experience' that lives ups to IMAX's claims. |
