UPD: Sold out now.
Kinda makes me sad though that it took 5 years and bargain basement prices before a picture of this high caliber sold out, I guess musicals just don't draw people

Most of us have patience and backlogs, so it's no big deal.

The fact it was one of those titles originally priced at $34.95 might have played a part too. I know I waited until it was one sale before I picked it up.

All I know, is that with my last order of 7 titles, they charged me $13.20 to ship to Canada, including tracking info.

I just ordered 4 Warner Archive Titles from Amazon.com, shipping for that was $12.95 plus an $8 customs deposit (which I may only get partially refunded) and no doubt my order will be shipped in a padded envelope instead of a cardboard box.

Presuming the latter gets here tomorrow (when it's scheduled to), that's a two week wait which is equivalent to what I waited for my TT order.
They charge over $12 for a 6 title order.

I could ship that without any business agreement for $5.60 plus the cost of printing the label, tape, bubble wrap, and time. (and that comes with $100 worth of protection). Thats for 3 day shipping anywhere in the country...with many places 1-2 days.

Or shipped via media mail Less than $4 plus the cost of a box.

Amazon changed the policies to force you into buying prime. The majority of US retailers throw in the shipping for free when you are spending that kind of money on Blurays. (Barns and Noble, Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Deep Discount, Bull Moose, the list goes on). If I ordered 4 Warner Titles from Amazon without prime, it still would be been free.

With Pal Joey and Oliver! along with the other titles that have sold out...this TT sale by SAE has been a tremendous success. No wonder they're extending it. With December titles probably not arriving to ship over this weekend it won't delay anything. I know some people are mad but I think it's a shrewd business move.

It's been a tremendous success in clearing out the back stock, but I wonder how much of a financial hit it's been for them. I mean the amount of blu-rays reduced from $30 to $8 alone must number in the hundreds.

This was before it was popular for stores to carry imports in stock. The stuff would literally take months to arrive. I often think back to that and rejoice in the fact that online ordering and delivery today is almost instantaneous in comparison - even when it means sometimes waiting a couple of weeks.

Well, all those titles were paid for up front 3-5 years ago. So, at this point, they just needed to get something for them.

Aren't we getting near "announcement time" again? Last one was in the middle of October.

Oh yeah, I forgot it's getting to be that time again. Probably Saturday, if I had to guess.

I watched Zulu for the first time this past weekend courtesy the TT disc. I'd say it lived up to the acclaim of those who posted about it in this thread over the past week or so. I loved the deliberate buildup to the action. You really get the sense of pieces being assembled on the board, so to speak. And when the action came, it was tremendous, just great filmmaking. I was a bit worried the imperialist element might have awkward racial implications, but it was handled pretty well for a 60s film. In turn, I pass along the high recommendation to those who still haven't seen it. Zulu is beautiful to look at, and as for the Michael Caine and John Barry of it all, those elements stood out as well. Very happy to have it in my collection!

Probably not as much as you think. They've made a nice profit on many titles. If they have to sell a few copies below what they paid I'm sure they wouldn't have offered them at such a low price if they couldn't afford to.

And Amazon still had a $4.6B loss in shipping costs over the first 9 months of this year; an increase of $1.3B when compared over the same period last year.

Really happy the sale's been extended. I've been meaning to buy some titles but

a) money's a little tight now
b) I've been swamped at work

Wednesday night or Thursday should be a lighter day when I can properly consider my options. Just happy all the titles that have sold out so far have been ones I already have or didn't care about. The one partial exception is Philadelphia, which I mainly would want for its historical value.

Seconded. I was charged $24.15 for my second order of 18 titles through SAE. The last order I put through Amazon had 10 titles and I was charged $24.89 plus $8.48 import fees. SAE arrives bubbled wrapped, in a sturdy box and have never had a single one damaged. Amazon shows up in an envelope and half the time at least a few of the cases are broken somewhere.

I just look at some of the folks upset and think to myself "you have no idea how good you have it compared to others". Not that I'm saying other people's criticism isn't valid, of course it can be! Not trying to say it's not or that anyone shouldn't voice their concerns, but sometimes you also gotta look on the bright side. Could be worse. Could be in Canada, have to pay triple the amount of shipping, plus import fees, plus exchange rate, plus a couple extra weeks for the shipping... Saw someone cancel their order because it was taking too long to ship... Man... I can't imagine what some people would've been like in the 80's and 90's. Anything you ordered from anywhere took 2 months to get to you. Anyone remember Columbia house back in the day? I'd usually forget that I had even put through an order after having to mail what you wanted back to them and then waiting for them to mail your order to you.

The last time around it was mid-October, my guess is December 17th.

I guess when you price a catalog title low enough you can sell 3,000 units. Just like the studios did with DVDs

I'm still scratching my head over Sony's announced "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" TT still has copies and the 3 year time frame isn't up. Other SONY titles are OOP from TT - will those be coming out through SONY in the near future too?

TT seems to have restocked Moby Dick (from SAE or from the manufacturer?). After the remaining quantity was below 10, now they have again 497 copies for sale. Mistery?

Nevertheless, I've ordered my copy from SAE, didn't want surprises

There was word in one of the threads (I forget which, maybe this one, maybe the Moby Dick, maybe the sale thread in the bargain forum) where somebody said that delivery of some of the Moby Dick stock was delayed. There wasn't a specified source, but it seemed more likely to me than the two sites having sold more than 2800 copies already.
