Fast forward til I got my PS4 Pro. Tried hooking that up and still No signal. After research I was thinking my Firmware was outdated but nope that wasn't the case. Turns out theres a work around on the PS4 pro:

*Boot into safe mode, change HDCP to 1.4, restart; then power off. Then boot into safe mode again and change Resolution to 2160; restart and..............yay PS4 Pro Settings is telling me that my TV is doing the 3460x whatever and my HDCP thing is rated 2.2 but my TV don't support HDR (which is fine because the specs agree)

The box says "4k Ultra HD"

Now what did the above thing say from Samsung?

So after reading the last few pages from this thread I needed clarification....I went out and purchased 2 more 4k Movies to test out.

First I put in the standard Blu Ray; plays fine! (few seconds into Scene 4)
Then I put in the 4k Ultra HD movie into player...........

So the Samsung player reads it, displays the title on homescreen and when it loaded I got/saw a message "This Disc has been produced for TVs with High Dynamic Range" and blam back to "No Signal"

The Independence Day Resurgence says "HDR"
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of Shadows says "HDR"
Jason Bourne says "HDR"

So I'm having a strong feeling these movies will not play without an HDR TV!! Period! So I'm also thinking that should be a stipulation in which i'll have to contact Samsung. Its a bit misleading really. Or rather very very confusing!

The thing of it is; I just barely bought and assembled a TV Stand and purchased a 40inch TV. The TV i'm looking at that does have HDR is a 50inch; in which I'll need to find the right TV stand for my needs and assemble that LOL! Just a pain is all

HDR is not a requirement. Many people are using the player without HDR TV, including myself. If I had to guess, I'd say either you don't have everything at HDCP 2.2 or your HDMI cable is under spec.

Yes. Use for both. If your TV has better 4k upconversion software, then every time you put in a DVD or 1080p Blu-ray you have to manually switch to 1080p out and switch it back to 2160p for UHD Blu-ray's.

We need to know what TV you have now and what you plan on buying next.

We also need to know if you are running through a receiver first. And if so, which one.

Where does your "quote from Samsungs website" say HDR? All I saw was UHD.

Lets see if I can get to all your questions:

1-HDR doesn't list on Samsung's website you're right. Of the 3 movies I purchased for 4k; it lists the letters "H-D-R" as a logo or sticker on the actual Package. And Samsung says "UHD TV" what I am I saying is I cannot get the 4k UHD Movie to play on my Setup

6. Yes I do have the proper HDMI cable; unless there are fake HDMI cables that say 4k on the box when it really isn't.

7. On my TV I have a total of 5 HDMI ports. Only one of those HDMI ports is a different color. Ironically its "yellow" not blue unlike some website I read that says "4k is supposed to be a blue port". Meanwhile of the 4 HDMI ports not one says "4k at 60hz" The "Fifth" HDMI port is listed as "the highest quality for this TV" which says (on a yellow sticker) 4k @ 60hz

So at first I really thought my port wasn't HDCP 2.2 compliant on my TV. No where in the manual, no where on the website, or even thru Tech support do they say its 2.2. Actually Vizio Tech says it does but the thing is; why isn't it listed in the specs? At any rate, again I thought my TV wasn't; therefore that is the reason my 1st 4k movie (Independence Day 2) wasn't playing and it said No Signal.

However when I hooked up my PS4 pro (from the tweak above) the PS4 Pro Display settings is actually telling me I have a HDCP 2.2 Port and that my resolution is 34xx by whatever

Your manual does mention HDCP 2.2:

"Inputs Ports
UHD up to 30 Hz 1, 2, 3, 4
UHD up to 60 Hz 5
HDCP 2.2 1, 2, 5"

Just leave the player set to 2160p output.

I do not recommend soundbars. They are a waste of money and usually give only somewhat better audio than the built-in tin cans they call speakers in flat panel TV's. Often times they also have limited audio codec support too compared to a receiver. There are better alternatives.

Usually on Sony 4k displays you need to enable HDMI Enhanced.

I definitely prefer 1080 setting for blurays, maybe that's just my TV tho.

Amazing how much they charge for these soundbars given the quality of audio you get. I've said it before, my cheapo 5.1 setup I had from 10 years ago was much nicer than the soundbar I bought a few years ago, and half the price!

I have an audio question, when I watch a movie with DTS-HD soundtrack I'm getting Neural:X audio, which kicks butt!, but when I choose Auto Surround I still get Neural:X and not the original DTS-HD track. Usually I get the original soundtrack when I choose Auto and the upmixing when I choose Surr??

Unless I'm reading the manual wrong, you would push the AUTO button until you got Stream Direct, which should turn off applied upmixers. Then hit SURR until you get Dolby Surround for Dolby tracks or Neural: X for DTS tracks (or either for PCM tracks). I don't believe Pioneer has come up with their cross format upmixer fix yet. My Marantz just got it a few days ago.

It's possible another firmware update was added that messed things up, but I'm not sure about that.

Sounds like an error in the Pioneer firmware coding. I would call Pioneer support and put in a ticket to let them know you want that fixed in a future update. The only way they know is if people complain.

I need to check for a firmware update as well, been a month and a half since the DTS:X update.

I'm not sure what the hell ALC actually does but if the receiver is showing the original track in that mode then I should be getting the original track right? Or is there some kind of filters applied??

ALC is a form of dynamic compression. I wouldn't leave it in that mode. Just suffer through upmixing until there is a fix.

But do call them and lodge a complaint about the firmware (have the version number ready for them), if that's the latest version.

Make sure that you get HDR10 with the Vizio M-Series, I know the P-Series got an update for HDR10 but I don't know about the M-Series so check that before you buy.

Did some searching on this, the receiver is fine thankfully. In Auto mode there is a Render option in the Audio parameter settings, it's set at Object now which engages the upmixer but if I change it to Legacy it will apparently disable the upmixer and play original audio. Still need to confirm tho. I do like the original track on some movies as the front firing speakers seem to have more punch.

Sorry for the thread derail, back to the regularly scheduled programming

I am trying to search this thread but I get error message - Invalid Action specified, so I don't know if this question was posted before.

I have MKV video file that I converted from M2TS file. It has PGS subtitles. When I play this file from external HDD and press subtitle button on remote I get message from the player that this video doesn't have subtitles.

Is it normal, "by design", that this Samsung UHD player cannot play PGS subtitles from MKV file?
