This is what the Vizio P-Series uses. Dolby Vision works well, but I'd prefer a streaming set-top-box solution instead. My family is used to the Roku's simplicity.

Apparently, the Dolby Vision / HDR10 compliant Chromecast Ultra is not compatible with "YouTube HDR" (i.e. VP9-HLG / VP9-PQ).

The purpose of the image and one of the links is to explain what VP9-PQ and VP9-HLG are for people who don’t know.

The purpose of the other link is to show that "Dolby Vision + HDR10 + HLG + 10-bit VP9 Profile 2" compliant SoCs exist and one of them could be used by Google.

Meh I don't need YouTube to be in HDR. If it's the same as what Vizio uses then I'd be happy if it has VUDU 4K support from the beginning

I have published an HDR video on YouTube that you can view with Chromecast Ultra:

If you view it on an SDR (non-HDR) screen you will actually look at an HDR > SDR conversion that YouTube creates automatically.

It took a couple of days to set up a workflow for processing and uploading HDR videos for YouTube. Their HDR implementation is atrocious because they rely on custom command line tools to attach HDR metadata to exported video. It's a total mess. And it's their fault because they do not support the actual standard as input (HEVC/H.265 with embedded HDR metadata).

Subscribe to the channel if you want to get notified of new videos as I post them in the next few days.

I also published another HDR video myself. The HDR version is fine but the SDR version has some transcoding issues due to a YouTube bug that I reported to them.

In my opinion HDR in gaming has great potential, probably even more so than in real life videos.

Not forgetting HDR in general has great potential. Things in the pipeline….HDR with mobile devices, HDR with gaming, HDR live transmissions of sporting events, HDR and HFR (100/120 fps) combined together.
