I have no idea, actually, since I've never formatted my PS3, but I just assumed they would wipe all user accounts on the machine. The PSN accounts, of course, would not be touched, as they are server-side.
I'd say check, just in case. Also, I don't think I've run into any copy-protected content, but I would assume that the backup/restore utility would just copy the entire disc image. Again, after you restore, make sure to check that everything is there before you format. |
