Ah, you nearly made my heart pop out of my chest. I'm assuming we'll hear more around Anime Expo.

Probably more like Otakon than AX.

Why do you say that? I assumed Anime Expo since that's when they gave the original announcement.

Anime Expo doesn't seem to be the be all end all con anymore. In fact, when I was there in 2013 the only announcement that was made was Production IG's head accidentally saying there would be a second season to Psycho Pass.

Otakon, Anime Boston, and there was one other that seems to really be where the new licenses are unveiled.

The thread title made my heart stop for a second. The predicted timetable for this release was by the end of the year, hopefully will hear something soon.

I think once Klekner gets all of his ya ya's out of his system once Gundam is done he might get around to releasing this.

The dub for the Student Council Saga is pretty iffy but they get better as they go along. Even that first arc is charming in its own way. Maybe it's just me.

For its age, the dub's not bad, but it does underserve the material. I'd be quite happy with a new one as well, and given the success of Escaflowne, it's not exactly out of the question.

Sorry, didn't mean to give people heart attacks or to disappoint you regarding my original post. I was looking for a thread for Utena and only found one in the Asia forums and that was discussing the Japanese release specifically.

I've been looking off and on for new info over the past year or so. I only just saw something on Nozomi's Facebook page from back in October saying how there have been some production delays, so it won't be released this year. I guess at this point, that's obvious, though, haha.

Shawne Kleckner was asked about it on a recent ANNCast. He said it is currently in production. He also said (I'm paraphrasing here) that the materials he initially had weren't the best, and that he decided to wait until he could get better materials because he didn't want to put out a sub-par release.

Personally, I think it would be really cool if they could do some kind of upgrade program for all the people who bought the DVD sets, but I don't know how realistic that would be. Maybe just offer a small discount?

An upgrade program would be nice. Rightstuf did it for Tylor back in 2009, allowing people who purchased the ultimate edition to mail in their discs to get the remastered ones for $20. I like the Utena DVD packaging and wouldn't mind doing that. Of course, these are Blu-rays that we'd be upgrading to so I can imagine the fee would be more.

That's disappointing to hear about having access to materials that "weren't the best." Sounds like they weren't given the same masters as the Japanese release which look beautiful. I hope things turned around though, it'd be a shame if we got borked video, sound, or both.

The Turn-A Gundam upgrade is only $25, IIRC.
