That goes beyond being merely an issue with QC, and is the reason why I'm not willing to give Shout a pass on this matter.
That's really embarrassing. They should have asked those questions BEFORE or DURING prep for a catalog release. Not after they have been outed as releasing a flawed product.

I thought it was interesting that they retweeted this.

Here's what the guy says in the review. As a "fan" of Black Christmas, I find his tone to be annoying.

Scream Factory has come under fire for this mono track since fans were really looking forward to hearing the original mono. This reviewer totally gets the frustration – the hissing static is certainly a problem. However, it is absolutely not “unlistenable” as I have heard some people describe this mono track; in most scenes, it’s relatively unnoticeable. This is a case of some fans making a mountain out of a molehill, and I would be sincerely disappointed to see “fans” of the film canceling their orders because of a small, but admittedly problematic, mono track. Does this require Scream Factory to issue new discs correcting the issue? Probably not. Rather a simple explanation – which they have already discussed – is all that’s needed.

I guess Scream's Marketing Department will do almost anything to promote this flawed blu ray including asking the consumer to overlook a defective audio track. What a disgrace.

How can Scream consider this a "great release"?

The fact that Shady Factory retweeted this shows their sheer audacity towards people who actually believed them when they said that they'd be releasing a "definitive" edition.

It also speaks volumes about Shady Factory and the people who'll give them an easy pass on something so fundamental as an original track.

WOW! That review is a huge concern and very cautionary of people's expectations of quality. Very disheartening.

There can't only be a certain number of us upset about these defects. It's just insane if that's the case.

That's easy for him to say since he didn't have to pay for his copy. He'll be the first one to email Shout! once the exchange program is detailed. I hope an actual proof of purchase is required so he can back up that review. The audio is most definitely noticable and distracting. "Fans" such as myself already bought the disc, politely contacted Shout! and are happy to wait for the replacement.

It's interesting to note the reviewer apparently is trying to perform some sort of "damage control" on Scream's behalf.

The reviewer's arrogant and condescending tone, and his attempt to marginalize and negate the issue by stating those of us who are dissatisfied with this blu ray are "making a mountain out of a molehill" is asinine. Does the reviewer really think he has that much credibility? What a joke.

I apologize for being the late guy to the party, but can someone briefly explain the issue with the audio? Which track has the issue and is the same issue on any other BD release of BLACK CHRISTMAS?

Clearly, dude doesn't get it. It's not okay to put out a problematic product, and then proceed to ignore the problem after fan outcry. Don't silently sit aside and wait for it to go away. FIX IT! I don't get how people are satisfied with accepting good enough when perfection is easily attainable. This is your business. If you can't do it right, then give it to someone who can.

From the review:

Quote:
if the mono bothers you to the point where you won’t order this, then I think you need to reassess your fanaticism for the film.
This thinking is so backwards, I'm having a hard time processing it.

Now that I've heard it with my own ears, I must say that's sounds awful. It's too late for me to cancel my order since its in transit right now, but a replacement plan should definitely be implemented.

No need to cancel. There will be a replacement disc.

I love how he says it all disdainfully, like "WE'LL TAKE THE 21ST CENTURY VERSION." It's like a really, really aggressive and snotty defense of the Star Wars edits.

B) There are no original sound effects or music cues removed that do belong

C) The music and sound effects are not mixed so loudly that the dialog is now difficult to hear

I do think that in addition to any newly-created surround tracks, the original should also be included whenever possible.

Wasn't this same issue on their Dead Ringers release? I wonder if they will fix that audio track as well?

This should be the mission statement of every company that releases a film/TV show in any format.
