Finally my local theater is showing 3D and DBox together for this movie. They always have them separated on films much to my annoyance. I haven't seen a film with both since Tron and that was incredible. I can't wait for this one.

For those interested in getting some of those neat Star Wars 3D glasses, Regal Rewards has them available to order. The Death Trooper ones look different but the Stormtrooper glasses look very similar. Of course, that requires you to have a Regal nearby in order to earn enough points to get them. I put in an order for the Stormtrooper and Death Trooper ones, I hope they arrive before the film comes out so I can use my own. Not sure if they'll be available at Regal locations when the film comes out on Friday.

I'll be seeing it in RealD 3D & Atmos in the Boston RPX theater.. Basically my best option in the Boston area.

Cool. How would you compare this Rogue One 3D conversion to Stereo D's Force Awakens 3D conversion, both being from Stereo D?

Zavvi has posted a preorder for the Steelbook. Yes, it says 3D so, looks like it will come sooner rather than later like The Force Awakens.

Thanks. Here's hoping. I wrote to Disney to mention to release this earlier on behalf of many 3D fans compared to the wait for Force Awakens 3D, but we'll see if they already had it planned.

I saw the movie in 3D and here's what I think about the conversion:

Mostly medium 3D with few medium strong pop outs and few very quick strong pop outs. The 3D looked natural; Just couple of scenes looked a bit flat. There was two (or three) scenes where the foreground on the bottom of the picture looked a bit weird, but I'm not sure if that came from the (3D) subtitles.

When comparing to the theatrical 3D presentation of The Force Awakens I would say the conversions are on par. (The 3D blu-ray of TFA was much better than the 3D cinema or IMAX 3D presentations)

Next I'm going to see it on Saturday in IMAX 3D.

If you want to know how I feel about the movie (after just one watch) click here: (no big spoilers)

The beginning was a bit unstable and it took a while until I had a feeling I was watching a Star Wars movie. There were big surprises for me (like some characters I didn't know would appear in the movie) and lot's of easter eggs for SW fans. The end battle was gorgeous and I have to admit the last 5 minutes or so gave me huge shivers. I even shed a tear or two in the end.

Few scenes needed John Williams' score...

Interesting that the 3D blu seems to be up for pre-order straight away. I was expecting another TFA situation where had to wait almost a year.

Extremely good news for a 3D release together with the 2D release. Seems like Disney learned from their TFA mistake to releas the 3D Blu-Ray later than the 2D

Thanks. That sounds promising if this is comparable to Stereo D's conversion of Force Awakens, which is great IMO.

Thanks. I would need a translator to read that language, but hopefully we'll see some pre orders in the US, UK and other Countries also. It would be great to have it in April 2017 instead of November again.

Going to watch VII 3D again and then Star Wars A New Hope, before going to see Rogue One 3D this weekend.

While the 3D overall is not the best, I would say for me it was better then TFA - more consistent and natural depth.

So no pop out moments ?
There was in TFA so that would make TFA better if there is none in Rogue one

Same company, but different team by all accounts. Which role in the team has the most influence on the 'strength' of the 3D?

Stereographer:
Force Awakens - Brian Taber (other credits in that role include all of the Phase 2 Marvel movies and Star Trek: Into Darkness)
Rogue One - uncredited (can someone confirm from the end credits)

Stereoscopic Supervisor:
Force Awakens - Ryan Hirsh (The Martian)
Rogue One - Jeremy P. Carroll (Star Trek: Beyond, The BFG, Terminator Genysis)

Stereoscopic Editorial Supervisor:
Force Awakens - Derek N. Prusak (Terminator Genysis, Everest, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men: DOFP)
Rogue One (3D Stereographic Editor) - Brett Schulman (Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman, Jurassic World, Godzilla)

I remember JJ Abrams citing Corey Turner as the major influence on the 3D in Into Darkness - he was the "executive stereographer" (who was also exec. stereographer on TMNT, TMNT: OUTS, Terminator Genysis and the two Transformers Movies).

There are none that really stand out like the Star Destroyer in TFA, no . But I personally enjoyed it more, it had a more natural look to it.

I liked the immersive-ness (is that a word?) of it, but there were none of those "Star Destroyer" moments, for me.

But the movie, overall, WAAAAAAY better than Episode VII. And better than the prequels. This is the type of movie we should have gotten so long ago.
