Day 1 for me as well. I anticipate revisiting this film many times. Maybe a steelbook with this art though??

Doesn't April 11th seems a little far though for this movie, or is it just me? Even Star Wars: The Force Awakens with mammoth box office only came out the first week of April.

No. It goes wide on January and its same scenario as The Revenant which released wide on January and had an April home video release last year.

La La Land will be a day one purchase for me, and for the rest of you as well.

I saw it at the theater yesterday, and it really is a wondrous and visually stunning film.

Sitting in the theatre waiting to watch this right now. Anticipating being swept away by the magic of cinema.

It goes a little overboard in its homages and classic Hollywood and Demy references, but I don't care one bit. It's thrilling stuff and Day 1 for sure.

I think that there is a point to the many many overt references to classic Hollywood, because these homages are interspersed with scenes of YouTube interviews, cell phone ringtones, and compromised art (the 1980s tribute band, the "modern-era jazz band" with John Legend, etc.), as if to show that the purity that made classic art and cinema so memorable is a thing of the past in an age of distracted audiences and pandering to popularity. In this sense, La La Land has an undercurrent of sadness flowing beneath it throughout the story.

Ha! I only ever use my phone in a theatre prior to the previews. Once images and sound come on, I have a strict no cell phone policy. Believe me, I have massive respect for the theatrical experience.

Overall, La La Land was a wonderful film. It really felt magical and invigorating to see a film like this come out of Hollywood in 2016. Watching the film had an additional emotional impact on me as I absolutely love Los Angeles (I visit just about every year). Seeing some of my favorite locations (Griffith Park, for example) photographed so vibrantly coupled with the message to follow your dreams, really got me thinking more deeply about not making any more excuses for not moving there.

My only minor criticism of the film was
[Show spoiler]at the end, when Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling see each other again at Seb's, I felt that the last musical montage was unnecessary. Sure it looked beautiful, but I think everything that needed to be conveyed was done perfectly with the final looks they both give each other.
Other than that, a delightful experience.

I hope that a UHD is released at some point because the colors in this film would look beautiful with HDR.

Wow! You need to calm down. It is very possible that at the original post BB did have a date. It is not unusual for a date to be posted and then withdrawn. Doesn't make one a "liar."

My local theater surprised me and got this Christmas day even thought he lionsgate release calendar didn't have it. Amazing, beautiful, movie. Day one purchase. I even ordered the vinyl soundtrack (came with mp3 rip) just because it seemed so right. I really want to see it again.

Saw this yesterday. What an incredible film. A beautiful love letter to classic Hollywood and jazz music. Day 1 for sure.

I'll probably buy this Day 1 as well. Damien Chazelle and Justin Hurtwitz will hopefully be heavy hitters in the future. Love what they do as a team.

Camera: Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL2, Panavision C-Series Lenses
Laboratory: EFilm (digital intermediate)
Negative format: 35 mm (Kodak)
Process: Digital Intermediate (master format) / Panavision (anamorphic) (source format)

All the classic references to the Golden Age of Movie Musicals - actually filmed and presented in the CinemaScope 55 presentation. Filmed on 35mm Kodak filmstock then transferred to Digital Interface. And a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

What's not to like about a 4K UHD HDR release? Sure hope so.
