Here is the post where they replaced the unit after I complained in the dealer show room: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=287209
Then yesterday a reconditioned of our old model showed up. Only took a couple months Original post: Our previous unit died under extended warranty. Our current unit died a couple months ago under the Onkyo warranty. We haven't seen it since. Now the local shop that replaced everything in it shipped it to Onkyo. We are not happy campers. ![]() Last edited by Indian Hills Theater; 03-02-2017 at 06:45 PM. Reason: New info at top |

Weird. I've had mine for almost 10 years, and have yet to experience a single problem.

If the unit was returned to Onkyo by the repair shop, that means the unit is not repairable. I'm sure Onkyo will make good on sending you another, but at this point you probably do not want another. I still own the Onkyo TX NR 709 and an 809 series and both have been great AVRs. I no longer use them in my home theater after purchasing a Denon 4520 c.i. which is awesome. When Onkyo decided to do away with Audyessey Room Correction I have read many reports on Onkyos quality control going downhill with a number of problems on the AVR lineup. I love the Onkyos that I own but would never purchase another one after going with Denon. My advice would be to use the Onkyo they send you and start looking for another brand or maybe find a sucker to purchase whatever Onkyo sends you. Very sorry to hear about your problems and please keep us posted about what happens next.

This is giving me second thoughts about an NR646 getting delivered Wednesday. I've been looking for a deal on one of the higher end denon models, and am thinking about going that route. I'm not even setting up Atmos yet but wanna future proof.

This is why a person should do extensive research, and read all the editorial and customer reviews on the product as possible prior to making a final decision to purchase. No product is 100% lifetime maintenance free, but you want to choose the best and most reliable merchandise available. Personally, I've never liked, and never will buy a Onkyo receiver due to the same reason.

I've had many Onkyos over the years and never any issues. They've been great. Look at any forum and you will see complaints about all manufacturers across the board. That's just how it is in mass production especially in electronics.

![]() When/if I shop for a new receiver though, I won't automatically jump back in with Onkyo. Something like an AVR has tech changes so frequently compared to other HT equipment that I'll definitely spend at least a month or two researching several brands before purchasing. |

I do not want to scare you but after 2 Onkyos that worked perfectly for years and still do I wanted a 9.2 channel AVR, but I could not go with Onkyo anymore because they no longer used Audyessey Room Correction. Did research on Denon for 3 months and went with Denons 4520c.i. "Flagship AVR at that time" and it was dead upon arrival. The second one has worked flawlessly and I will purchase another Denon in the future. My friend bought one of Yamahas Aventage series models which crapped out after only one month. My point is that IMO Onkyos quality control has diminished some because at this time they are just now replacing alot of motherboards/chipsets on a large number of AVRs that are no longer under warranty for free. You can do research but with a very large production of electronics out there, these things are going to happen.

I've had 2 Onkyo AVR and the 1st one went down and then in 2012 I purchased the HT-RC360 (which is a 2011 model) and it's been working flawlessly. The only problem is that the remote has finally broken down (I'm currently using the Onkyo remote control app on my phone until I can get a replacement).

I've been running my 605 -- the first model on the commercial market to handle the high resolution audio codec decoding -- since its release, circa 2007-2008, on a nearly DAILY basis since that time, and it hasn't failed on me ONCE.
It has always been well-ventilated, though, not in a closed-off entertainment cabinet or rack. |

The model X4000 I had would randomly turn itself off, for no apparent reason. On top of that, the sound quality was lousy. Denon receivers muddy the soundfield. Details in movie soundftracks that I experienced with my old Onkyo 3009 receiver, were completely missing when played back with the Denon in the loop. Replaced the crappy Denon, with a brand new Onkyo RZ1100. Now, I'm hearing all those glorious soundtrack details again. Plus now I can experience Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, in all there glory. And with cool running class D amplifiers, you never have to worry about over heating issues, which plagued some older Onkyo receivers. |

I purchased my first Onkyo TX-SR876 in 2009. We made the mistake of buying it off of Ebay. The unit had a dead HDMI port so we returned it for a full refund. We bought the replacement from Amazon and have been very pleased with it. I did read prior to buying it, that they run hot, so I bought a fan almost the size of the receiver to keep it cool. Works like a charm. The unit has never been placed in a cabinet either so that probably has helped as well. We only use it for movies and NEVER run it more than 4hrs without a cool down. I was considering to getting another receiver that is Atmos friendly, and was considering another brand (Dennon?) but have yet to make a final decision.
