Hence my surprise.
With regards to the sexism / rape, it's been so long since I've seen it that I don't remember all the details, but with regards to racism, the character of Long Duk Dong is pretty culturally insensitive - the name is a crude double-entendre making fun of the fact that Asian names often sound like English language swearwords and / or sexual euphemisms, and IIRC anytime he appears on screen there is a gong sound? I don't take personal offence to it, but I can see where Asian people are coming from when they criticize the character.

Is that "double points" thing still working on Criterion.com if you buy a gift card? Or did it expire already? I was thinking of getting a $250 to use on the (likely) February flash sale, but I don't see the deal anymore. Any way to tell before clicking "submit order" whether I'm getting 2x points or not?

Can you think of any other film that can have 16 candles as a clue? The biggest thing is the clue are candles.

Not to mention, it explains the John Hughes phantom page.

What about Uncle Buck? That's my favorite Hughes film, and best John Candy performance just after PT&A.

Just watched Multiple Maniacs, quite possibly the worst movie to ever be made.

I need to know Ray Jackson's thoughts on this film immediately.

One of the greatest art films ever made imo.

...the film that Kieslowski would've made if he had any vision.

*said purely out of spite for Scottie's endorsement of cover art for the upcoming Heat 4K release

I swear to god, if Sixteen Candles gets released before Le Samourai I will immolate myself on the sidewalk in front of the Criterion offices in New York.

...at least I will leave this godforsaken world with my honor intact.

Looks like we will all need to pitch in to get Ray some gasoline and matches.

I don't get worked up one way or another over what new titles they release. I don't have a say in it and I can't control it. In my experience since I've been buying their DVD and Blu-Rays is that its been a (very) rare month of their announcements that I haven't found at least one title that I wanted. I expect that to continue. My biggest concern going forward is what their priority regarding upgrading their DVD titles to Blu is going to be. There are so many titles there I want as opposed to announced new titles. I hope they become a bit more like their old schedule when it seemed like they had at least one upgrade in their monthly announcements. over.

Happy New Year!

I'm guessing it will be listed in iScottie's Storefront soon?

John Waters is far from a director for everyone. More so his films that feature Divine in them. If I remember correctly, Divine once ate actually dog shit in one of the films they were in.

Please, that'd just convince them to release Seven Psychopaths before Le Samourai.

I'm not trying to pile on here, but how is this 'unfortunate'? That is accurate. That is how kids talked. Did you grow up on planet earth?

I dunno. It has X's on it, not a skull and cross bones. Makes me think it is booze/moonshine?

I wish it was 'Arsenic and Old Lace' though

You have no idea how happy I would be with a Criterion release of Gummo.

Give me that, Pink Flamingos, and Happiness... I would be one happy man.
