The Switch should has been a true stationary and portable successor!
The Tablet should have a DS/3DS card slot along with the Switch cart slot.
The Dock should have a WiiU Disk slot and hook up for a hard drive.

They also should have made the Dock have enhancement tech! Docked should have been 4k compliant while 720p-1080p on the go.

I've defended a lot of Ninty's oddball decisions over the years, but the way they are handling the Switch is just, well, nearly terrible!

There are three ways to charge the Joy-Cons.

lol how do you have the nerve to announce neon tiny controllers and then look down on "gamers" headsets? that would be the least of my worries if I'm carrying the switch around

plus, is there a rule that says you can't use your phone earbuds on a gaming system? Reggie should stop being a clown and say something that makes sense for once

Bulky gamers headsets??? no, thanks. I'll sit here with tiny controllers strapped on each hand, but I'm not a nerd, I'm using my phone for voice chat

Smart thing is Nintendo considering the Switch their home console and releasing a true handheld successor to the 3DS in a year or two. I'm no fan of handhelds myself but Nintendo cannot afford to go 100% in on the Switch while dropping the handheld market.
I expect they won't back the Switch exclusively until the Switch is successful. If the Switch sells well then they'll drop the 3DS and release everything for the Switch. If the Switch flops then they'll start work on a successor to the 3DS, but I doubt they're already working on a successor when the Switch could clearly fill that role. Going 100% on the Switch isn't dropping the handheld market... the Switch caters to that market.

Truthfully I don't see that many people buying/playing the Switch for it's portability. It's just to big to be something that you carry around in your pocket like a 3DS or phone.

Maybe at home or something but I don't think we'll see many people playing these in the wild like has been suggested.

I don't see Nintendo giving up on the 3DS if the switch is successful. 2 totally different crowds even if the switch is portable.

The Switch is a tablet. Do people often use tablets outside their house?

Personally I've never even seen someone else use a 3DS "in the wild" so I obviously don't know who uses them or what percentage of those people would use a Switch in the same situations. All I can comment on is my own view: I'd greatly prefer a Switch to a 3DS in all situations.

One market that probably wouldn't have a problem with the size is students. They have backpacks with them all day so the Switch being too bulky for their pockets isn't an issue.

You must be forgetting how big the Sega Gamegear and original Nintendo Gameboy were? Neither were exactly pants pocket friendly.

people also werent carrying cell phones in their pockets 25 years ago. Times have changed. A dedicated handheld is yet another device to carry around in addition to something thats a necessary staple to the vast majority of people today

and that'll be a mistake. They should use this opportunity to merge their lines. It seems redundant to continue on with the 3DS or a successor with the Switch being a reality. I can see a Switch Lite, which is smaller, doesnt come with the dock and has the joycons permanently attached down the line. I think that would be the 3DS successor

That wouldn't be a Switch anymore though would it? It would be yet another generic handheld with a slightly too small screen.

Wouldn't be any less logical than Nintendo making a 2DS which is basically a 3DS without the 3D.

it would be a Switch as it would use all the same software, not have its own seperate dedicated development and library

Having the Joy-Cons permanently attached would mean you couldn't play any of the motion control games (which they've been heavily promoting). The Joy-Cons seem pretty firmly attached so there's no advantage in making them permanent.

That didn't make any games incompatible.

What would you Switch? If there was no dock and the controllers were attached? It's like Burger King not selling burgers lol.

Where would the Switch part come in? Switching glasses to see the smaller screen?

Well its not a thing now. Lets see how big motion controls are in a year or two. It may be something that ends up de-emphasized and not used much when they realize people dont want them.

The Switch is nothing but a name. They can call it something different yet still pretty much be the same product just like the 2DS was to the 3DS

Just as the 2D version of the 3DS was renamed the 2DS, they would rename the Switch as well to something that made sense. Don't be pedantic.

This is Nintendo's second console to emphasize motion controls, if they thought people didn't want motion controls they wouldn't have put them in another console. Clearly Nintendo is trying to capture the same casual market that made the Wii such a success. It may not be what you or I want but Nintendo isn't going to give up on motion controls anytime soon.
