Nothing really shocked me yet, but the fiancee was shocked by Batman Begins.

The Dark Knight blu-ray has shocked you? How'd you get an advance copy?

He was talking about the first 6 minutes of the Dark Knight. You can see the prologue on the Batman Begins blu-ray. It does look pretty sweet.

Though brief...I think POLAR EXPRESS 3D has some brilliant moments.

I normally don't expect much from older movies so Patton, Blade Runner, 2001, Halloween, The Thing, Dr. No and From Russia with Love shocked me with how good they looked. I'm sure I'm missing some but those were the first to come to mind.

The Land of the Dead shocked me sound-wise. I thought it sounded great and considering the genre, didn't expect much from it.

John Carpenter's The Thing. Was not expecting this to look and sound so good after all these years.
I also enjoyed The Police:Certifiable live concert. This is the first concert I have bought on Blu and hope there will be many more of this quality.

T2 (not great, but better than people say) and Batman Begins was stunning and people don't give it enough credit, near flawless presentation.

Was the quality of this actually great? I was thinking about picking it up. Discretely I might add.

2001 Space Odyssey by a mile. Nothing touches it. First Blu I ever watched, and it hasn't been topped yet. The Patriot (second Blu I ever watched) looks better on Blu then it ever did in the theater.

The Dark Knight and Blade Runner look amazing too, but they looked pretty damn good on their latest DVD releases as well, so that came as no shock.

Bram Stoker's Dracula is the most shockingly bad transfer I've seen.

I hear you. I only was truly amazed with blu-ray once I started buying older films. The majority of the blu-rays in your collection had pretty awesome quality DVD versions, so the difference isn't huge. Buy older movies - that's where blu-ray shines.

Shockingly bad video quality
: I agree with the post above - Dracula was my shockingly bad blind-buy blu-ray of 2010. I even checked to make sure they didn't put a DVD in the blu-ray case. I couldn't even finish watching it because, even if it was a DVD, it had crappy quality.

Best shockingly good video quality of 2010: The Sound of Music, Shogun Assassin, and Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (three blu-rays which showcase the magic of restoration onto blu-ray)

Best shockingly good audio quality of 2010
: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (I can just listen to the sound effects, dialogue, and music with my eyes closed and enjoy this film)

Most shocking movie: Salo (I'm assuming this is somewhere around the same shock level as Irreversible and Faces of Death).

Yeah, I have a list of about 120 Blu-rays that I want and a few of them are older movies. I'm really interested in watching The Shining, Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, King Kong(1933), The Twilight Zone, Close Encounters of The Third Kind, etc....

My next batch of Blu-rays will be Night of athe Living Dead, Dawn of The Dead, Day of The Dead, Land of The Dead, Shaun of The Dead, Dawn of The Dead(2004 Remake), and Zombieland.

I've been meaning to get into the zombie/outbreak genre and these semibgly cult classics seem to be good ones to start with.

The Sound of Music is the pinnacle of what a remastered film should strive for in this high definition era. It was like watching a new film.
