Well, my copy wouldn't even play in my Oppo player, so I need to send it back. I also tried it in my Samsung UHD player and had the same result.

Can't give you running times as I'm away from home, but the main scenes to check are when Lugosi picks up Arlene Francis ("A lady...in distress") and when the gorilla abducts the girl in her bedroom.

I watched it last night. Beautiful transfer. Unfortunately, you are right Killer Meteor, music has been added to the film. The print appears to be a reissue from the late 40s. At that time, Universal "spruced up" a few of their earliest sound films to make them sound less primitive by adding needle drop music cues. The music is very clumsily edited and mixed. It drowns out important dialogue. I've contacted Elephant Films through their Facebook page and asked if they plan to correct this. If not, I'm going to reluctantly have to return it. It's a shame because the transfer is really sharp and clear. I've never seen this film look so good.

I think it was sweetened for a 40s rerelease, not to assert copyright though. That is definitely 40s needle drop library music.

I just sent this video to Elephant Films through their Facebook page. Check out about 14 minutes in where Lugosi kidnaps Arlene Francis and takes her away in the carriage. No music. I received a reply from Elephant Films today. They say that they are checking with Universal to see if they can get the correct soundtrack. Hopefully they will do a disc replacement on it.

I got a reply from Elephant Films. They say they have contacted Universal to get access to the proper element. Apparently Universal has three sources on this and they don't know which soundtrack is which. They're pulling them all and checking. Elephant Films said that they're working on a fix, but it's going to take some time.

Edit: I reluctantly notified Amazon.fr that I'll be returning the disc. I hope Elephant Films gets access to the correct audio and reissue it soon.

Nope and DVD Beaver just reviewed it. He had to be told that the music was wrong. He didn't notice it.

The images on dvdBeaver look great.

What do you think of the Blu-ray even with the music ?

I'm actually tempted despite the high price (when you add shipping),
as the frame grabs really look excellent.
