Understand that the fanbase does not want a fragile retread in the twilight of his career looking for one more big pay day when we're trying to rebuild what we have. I'd rather roll with Glennon or Geno (not Petty or Hack) and fail with them in an already lost year than set us back a few more years.

I'm finding all this backlash from the NFL community about TO not getting into the HoF a little amusing. Yes stats get you in the conversation, but things like "values" and "integrity" play a role as well, and it seems most folks lose sight of this. They look at Top Ten lists and say: "He should be in, this is crazy"
I can't think of another player that personified selfishness more than TO. IMO, he's the poster child for being selfish. The guy was more concerned about his own brand than any team he ever played for. In short, he was more concerned about playing for the name on the back of the jersey. Now I will never fault anyone for trying to make as much money as they can by bettering themselves. What Owens did with his constant contract squabbling went way beyond trying to get a pay raise, as he held teams hostage to do it. Where is the value and integrity in that? One need look no farther than Charles Haley. The guy was an absolute defensive stud. Until Brady this year was the only player with five rings, across two teams. First ballot lock right? No way. Not even close. Why? Because he went so long with his bi-polar untreated or opted not to take medicine, the guy was total racist/sexual deviant/overall jackass in the locker room. Now to TO's credit, he's never had any run-ins with the law(that I know of), and he was nowhere close to being as unstable as Haley, which is why he will probably get in sooner than Haley did. That's just the price he has to pay for his shortsighted, selfish, actions all those many years ago. Also, while this might be the Hall letting some personal feelings come into play, let's not forget about future players that will walk this same path. The Hall is not only sending a message to Owens, they are sending a message to all the: elementary, high school and college kids that we don't care how good you are, you better have good values and integrity to ease your path to the Hall. And I'm 100% okay with that! |

I don't want Cleveland drafting a QB (at least not until mid-Draft). They have holes everywhere, but they need to get some protection for their QB. I still think you roll with Kessler, and/or trade for Jimmy G.
Which.. I would love to see Detroit go ballsy and trade for Jimmy G. Our backups are horrible and luckily we have not needed them much recently, but still. I don't see it happening, at all, but I can dream. |

As a Niner fan, I am hoping they avoid taking a QB in the first round. Use the pick to fill other holes or trade down for more picks. In the past we would at least know Baalke was going to make shitty picks 95% of the time but this year is anyone's guess with Lynch and Shanahan in place.
With all of the cap space available hopefully they are finally allowed so spend some money on some free agents. Don't have to make any huge splashes but some modest signings, baby steps in the right direction would be nice. Besides the obvious need at QB (assuming we are moving on from Kaep) we are always in need of upgrades at the WR position. As far as QB there has been a lot of speculation about Cousins but I assume WAS is going to franchise him again and I don't think the Niners will pay the asking price, which is understandable. I have also heard that Matt Schaub will be a FA, has worked with Shanahan in ATL and could come as a "bridge" QB, which would be a decent option. I've never thought much of Romo, sure his regular season numbers have always looked great, but if he leaves DAL I wouldn't be completely opposed to him being a "bridge" QB for a couple of years. Honestly I am not expecting the Niners to make the playoffs next year so why not have that bridge in place until you find the next young franchise QB through the draft. |
