It's getting a season pass for $19.99

http://m.ign.com/articles/2017/02/14...ld-season-pass

Available from March 3 for $19.99 USD / £17.99 (Australian price unknown at time of writing), the Expansion Pass will offer two extra content packs, to be released later in 2017, neither of which can be purchased individually. The details of each are:
Pack 1 - Summer 2017
A new Cave of Trials challenge
Hard mode
"A new feature for the in-game map"
Pack 2 - Holiday 2017
A new dungeon
A new "original story"
Additional challenges
Purchasing the Expansion Pass will also immediately unlock three extra treasure chests in the game's Great Plateau location. Two will contain "useful items" while, more unusually, the third will include a "a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo which Link can wear during his adventure".

That's some bs that you have to buy it as one lot as I couldn't care less about anything in the first bunch.

Not sure how I feel about Zelda going the DLC route...

Definitely doesn't sound like anything worth $20 though, that's for sure.

This is what I hate about modern games, they ship incomplete. Considering this is offered on Day 1 just proves it wasn't an after thought, they are purposely holding back some features so they can charge you an extra $20 for them. Complete BS and I will not be buying.

If this was any other company, I wouldn't have battered an eye, considering season passes are the norm, but from Nintendo, Nintendo of all ****ing companies? And on top of that, to withhold a difficulty mode from the base game?

Now I am seriously questioning on whether to buy the game or just cancel it and my switch reserve altogether.

I get some of the complaints but i highly doubt they are holding back story content or shipping an incomplete game to release DLC. If that was the case it would probably be coming a lot sooner. Not to mention most season passes are $10 more. I am happy they are adding more story and giving people who get the season pass day 1 content. Assuming it is decent stuff.

I'd honestly be ok with DLC if it came in the form of amiibo, like have one of the new 5 being released unlock some code in the game to download the content for free (you're still paying for the amiibo, so technically not free). But to pay for digital content that you can't even hold in your hands... it's BS.

I know DLC is all the rage for millennials, but I'd rather have physical products. Which is why I hate when games are digital-only, you can't display digital goods.

The fact that there's dlc doesn't bother me. What's offered for the price and the fact that you can't split it up is what bothers me. I don't think anybody can argue for what they did with Mario Kart 8. That stands up there with the Witcher 3 for me on how to do dlc properly as far as price to content ratio goes. With this.......they just dropped the ball.

Nintendo is just aggressively trying to monetize as much as they possibly can. It's all going to be very trial and error with them going forward, just like with their mobile division. I guarantee you they learned a lesson from charging 9.99 for Mario Run and they probably won't do that ever again. People are in the chat rooms complaining right now but we'll see what the real response is from gamers ($$$). If the DLC underperforms, I'm sure Nintendo will take a hard look at that for the next game. If gamers don't like it, they should vote with their wallets and not buy it.

You want a season pass to complain about? How about Final Fantasy XV? $24.99 and it doesn't include DLC that's on the PSN store right now. Oh no, those are other add-ons. But you can buy those items separately for only .49 EACH.

I wish they would drop the price. It's still $9.99, and the game isn't even that good. I'd pay $10 if it was a normal Mario game with normal controls, but it's a stupid endless runner with a single tap control.

The reality is, and gamers REALLY need to come to grips with this, is games are one of the few mediums that have not increased in price on a 1:1 ratio when adjusting for inflation. In fact, games are actually cheaper now than they've ever been. Back when I had my Atari 2600, games cost on average 39.99 a piece and that was in like 1980. Today, that's about the equivalent of 117.00. In the mid 90's, it was nothing for a new N64 game to cost 69.99, which would be about 107.00 in 2017.

You want to see gamers go apeshit? Let publishers start charging for games what they really should cost in 2017. At least DLC is optional. No one is forcing you to buy it.

My family bought most of our Atari 2600 games when the console was being discontinued and games were dirt cheap.

Speaking of old stuff, why the hell is new vinyl so expensive? When I was a kid, you could buy a vinyl album for $4.50 and now it's close to $30 for new vinyl albums. Meanwhile a CD is around $8-10. And oddly enough, Amazon will sell a CD (with AutoRip included) usually $1 cheaper than the MP3 version by itself.

I'm a huge vinyl collector and I can shed some light on this for you. Vinyl is still a niche item and being printed by far fewer factories. Vinyl continues to grow in popularity but it's nowhere near considered a mass market item so naturally, companies have to charge a premium price to make anything from it. Also something else to consider, a lot of albums now come with a code so you can download the digital version for on the go listening. That's a feature you definitely didn't have back in the hey day of vinyl.

Back when I was a teen, vinyl albums cost around 13.00. If you are savvy and look for deals, sometimes you can find vinyl for close to that price, depending on which album you're looking for. Also, dont' forget to adjust for inflation. New albums in say, 1985 cost around 12.99. in today's dollars that's about 30 bucks. So really today's vinyl prices are right in line with what they cost back then.

and this pass doesn't include the Wolf Link and whatever the other 5 or so amiibos add to the game, what's your point?

anyway, the hard more is tacky, but I don't see what's the big deal of them adding a season pass, Hyrule Warrior had one

and no one plays Fire Emblem here? Awakening had $50+ DLCs, Fates' had 2 expansions for $40 plus $25(?) to get all the maps

It's not that I am against the season pass, again I get it. It's more to do with the whole having a harder difficulty being locked behind it. That is what pisses me off, then on top of that, they want to charge for online when they couldn't have gotten online done right with their last 3 consoles (GameCube Wii and Wii U)? Everyday it seems like more and more Nintendo is giving me less reasons to want to even buy one, when they just cannot get one thing right.

Capcom pulled this shit with Dead Rising 4, the "true ending" is locked behind a ****ing paywall too, and let's not forget Resident Evil 7 biohazard having DLC a ****ing week after the game launched.
