I'm def. in for OTHELLO, GHOST WORLD, and the GOOD MORNING upgrade. I just watched the old DVD of the latter and even posted about how it was ready for a better transfer.
I think Dheepan is a strong effort from Audiard, but I don't think I'm going to pick it up. Didn't buy WORLD CINEMA PROJECT 1, but I think I'll end up getting the second volume. I'd like to see the Yang, REVENGE, and MYSTERIOUS OBJECT. I would have picked up all three if they were separate, so I may as well spend the same amount (during a sale) and get the box. Gonna keep my DIELMAN DVD. Trying not to upgrade much these days unless the copy I have is way way old (like GOOD MORNING or GHOST WORLD). Last edited by jshaide; 02-15-2017 at 09:55 PM. |

I have held off watching Jeanne Dielman for years because I have been waiting for a Blu-Ray upgrade. But I finally caved, bought the DVD while I was in America last month and watched it for the first time last week. Classic.

A very strong month. Very impressive titles, including 2 good upgrades with Ozu and Akerman. Ghost World steals the spotlight but Orson Welles' Othello is pretty big too. I'm also flattered to see another Martin Scorsese World box set (Volume 2). Finally, I'm quite curious about Dheepan and will view this before I purchase it.
May day, May day, the month of May: Hip Hip Hooray! |

I'm all in for Ghost World.
It's funny, because I was not a fan of most of the "quirky" indie movies from that era, but Ghost World hit all of the right notes for me, and I used to watch my DVD quite frequently. I was living in a house with two friends when I got into this movie while it aired on cable television frequently, and they never could understand why I enjoyed it. I remember telling them at one point that Scarlett Johansson was going to be a big star one day, because of the way that her looks were juxtaposed with her unusually husky voice. My roommates didn't believe me. I guess we all now know who was right. I might grab Good Morning and Othello during a sale, but Ghost World will be a day one purchase. |
