Oh man, even though the Synapse US blu ray of Suspiria might finally be released later this year I am so tempted to get this Italian release.
I guess I should at least wait for the reviews until I pull the trigger, though.

Cost me £16.52 to import this new Italian blu-ray. Got a couple of hours overtime tomorrow so that's Suspiria paid for! Am quite excited for it's arrival, this will be the fourth Suspiria blu-ray that I have bought. I don't really mind buying so many copies, upgrading my Dario Argento dvd and blu-ray collection is a big hobby of mine (he's my favourite director).

I went ahead and pre-ordered as well. It will be the first time I own Suspiria on blu-ray.

Years ago I used to own the LE anchor bay DVD/CD set and even had it signed by Argento but sold it off. What held me off upgrading to blu-ray was the expensive UK version that never seemed to drop in price and all the talk online about how none of the releases so far did the movie any justice.

Then came the German deluxe release that was even more expensive and with it still using the same transfer that was out there, was another easy pass and then I decided to wait yet again for the Synapse release which I have no doubt will be equally expensive to import.

This Italian release will have the restored version, is English friendly and affordable. I look forward to seeing it.

P.S. The last time I actually saw Suspiria was at a film festival with the score performed live by Goblin (latest Simonetti incarnation). Cool experience!

I kept the excellent 52 minute making of Suspiria dvd. That version was worth owning just for that alone.

Pre-ordered this yesterday. Really happy to hear that they have finally solved the PQ issues that affected the previous Blu-ray releases but really hoping they don't used the botched audio mix from the AB DVD (and later releases) and the 5.1 audio is mixed from the 4-track stereo ( I can finally retire my custom DVD with Laserdisc PCM audio lol)

Well, I just ordered it. Am hoping that someone who commented in the review section is wrong, as he claims he watched a theatrical screening of the restored print two weeks ago, where he said....

"Please stay away [if it's the same version]. The opening credits and closing credits are not the originals. To say the least the sound was painful - mono, low/poor quality, seems to sound VHS."

Oh shit...

On paper i have more faith in the eventual Synapse release, but for the price its worth the gamble, if it was more i'd wait for the eventual critique.

By originals, was he referring to Italian credits because according to this post, the english titles were restored from a 35mm print

I am hoping that the 5.1 is the same as the current UK blu-ray (which was created by using the 2.0 track from the US laserdisc) and not the flawed Anchor Bay dvd version. The UK blu-ray sounds great imo.

Agreed. I had a review disc of it before release, and have always liked what they did with the audio on it. In the review from Jan 2010, I wrote:

"The DTS-HD Master Audio is pretty damn impressive. When originally released theatrically, Suspiria was mixed into a multi-track mix for discrete surround, and those who were lucky to see it in the few screens equipped to play in that way were all bowled over by the aural experience. The LaserDisc carried a very nice Dolby Surround approximation of the theatrical mix, and was a superb, entertaining track. Most reading this will know that the Anchor Bay digital mixes were fudge-jobs, with a number of unforgivable errors made during the processing stage. We can happily report that most of these obnoxious glitches have been corrected for the CineExcess release, coming at you in 5.1 for your viewing pleasure.

The crucial ‘Three Irises’ line is as it should be, giving the astute viewers the tantalising clue early on in the movie. The thunderclaps which were utterly wimpy before are now encompassing, and finally follow the casting of a spell on our hapless heroine. The breathing sounds of evil are restored to a sequence where they had previously been left out entirely. Best of all, the music of Goblin practically kicks its way out of your speakers, and it’s doubtful that the guys will experience their work in higher definition. Doubters can breathe easier with this excellent example of restoration
."

The UK BD was the only home video that corrected the audio mix but I avoided it because of the problems with the video. I know the botched one was carried over with the Japanese and Korean releases. Not sure what the German edition got stuck with.

Been waiting so long for a Suspiria BD release that did justice to it so fingers crossed Eagle Pictures deliver!

The German has a lossless stereo soundtrack that sounds nearly as good as the 5.1 on the UK Disc, I think it also has the Anchor Bay remix.

I really hope the new Italian Blu-Ray has the original sound mix. Can't wait to see it !!
I just want a great Transfer with great sound , by now I'm not bothered by extras.

Pre-ordered this along with Arrow's new Phenomena release. Would be cool to have Suspiria by the end of the month.

That documentary is included on the Australian Blu of the film along with other bonuses.
Can't recall if the UK documentaries are too

The audio on the Australian Blu is fine and I think its the same as the UK one in that it corrected the godawful Anchor Bay dvd screwup that stopped me from watching the film for a very long time

I never seen that 51 min doc!
Importing the Aussy blu might be too much just for the doc.
I will try find the dvd used on ebay or something.

Despite previously upgrading to the fairly recent German blu-ray, I still kept the old UK release simply because it came with an enjoyable Alan Jones and Kim Newman commentary track.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't available at the store.
