The specs mentioned USB playback, and the other connectivities, plus: USB Playback → Yes
The pictures show that USB port on the front right panel, with a USB protector/dust cover. The rear is what I got: • http://www.lg.com/us/home-video/lg-U...lu-ray-players ![]() ![]() |

A DVD playback feature/convenience.
When do you need to convert your video from NTSC to PAL or vice versa? The answer is simple: when you want people overseas to watch your video. It’s not a secret that different countries use different analog television encoding standards. So, if you record your video in the United States using an NTSC camcorder, people in Europe will most likely be unable to watch it on their VCRs. This is also partially true for digital video. A DVD recorded in the NTSC format cannot be played on a DVD player that supports only the PAL format. You will find more information about NTSC and PAL formats below. PAL (Phase Alternating Line) format is common for Europe and Asia. PAL is used in almost all Western European countries, Australia, and in some countries of Africa, South America, and Asia. NTSC (National Television System Committee) is a Color TV standard for the United States, Canada, Japan, and other countries of North and South America and Asia. ______ ♦ THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NTSC AND PAL |

Looking forward to see the pricing on this. I'm debating preemptively selling my Samsung K8500 since it is pretty loud at times and I've had some playback issues intermittently when watching various 4K titles. Hopefully the LG OLED I have will integrate better with a player of their own brand, as I've had to sometimes mess with settings on the player to get HDR running.

WoW now that I see the back of this it looks very very bare bones connection wise. Is there going to be another model that offers more like maybe a LCD screen on the front of the player and some analogs out puts?

It looks like any number of black, plastic-y monolithic looking consumer electronic items, designed to sit beneath our TVs. I don't see how anyone can look at any one of them and go 'that looks great' or 'that looks awful' at the designs, as they look virtually identical.
It's what's under the hood that counts here. |

I was thinking about getting the Sony X800 but after seeing the specs of the LG UP970 I may change my mind. Either way I'll have to wait for the "region free" version which will most likely be on sale in a couple weeks after the release.

* I just checked; I think you're right. From another perspective: the LG player is very bare bone, viewed from the outside. But inside its guts there's Dolby Vision readiness, the main attraction. Yes, it has so SACD and DVD-Audio playback feature like the Sony and Oppo players. Did you know that any screen display, lights, OSD, front panel windows, ...etc., are generators of noise pollution in the picture and sound? The LG player here for example; it's not the type of player attractive to look @. Even my Oppo player I don'y look @ it, ever. I even turn its front display screen totally OFF. In the back of my Oppo I need no more than just two jacks; two HDMI outputs. Plus the occasional USB port. And that is it. So, in that perspective that LG 4K BR Dolby Vision player is for the purist audiophile/videophile with a strong emphasis on simplicity for top optimal performance with the less basic operation mechanism issues, and the less picture/audio noise contamination possible. Brief it's for people like I. ...High-end people, for top picture (Dolby Vision 4K), and bitstream audio for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X Sure, it's not a McIntosh 4K BR player @ $9,999.99 because there's none. And it's not an Oppo 203 @ $549 because different people have different use; like the HDMI input for example (needs to be fixed). And of course it's not like the Sony 800, with SACD and DVD-Audio music playback. What else? Hmmm...analog connections? Why? It's much simpler to use the HDMI connection so that you can have the better bass management from your AV receiver, and also use its digital Room Calibration system and Automatic EQ with few manually adjustable parameters for best audio sound preference. The LG like other 4K BR players has an Ethernet jack, so it can be used if you prefer it over Wi-Fi. A digital coax or opt jack? What for? Anyway, it has one opt out jack to connect to your TV or receiver or soundbar, if ever you want to do that. Not me, ever. To me it's an extraneous jack but I can see others making use of it. So, the LG player has everything a high-end audio/video aficionado would want and wish for and in real practicality of life, use/connect. Remember...Dolby Vision, and purity of "son et image". ...And eventually a very very attractive street price. With LG I'm never worry about not seeing prices coming down to orgasmic tasty financial addictions. Fatal attraction? You betcha! Love @ first sight. The picture of that romance movie is on the screen, not on the player. When I went to see Mad Max in HI-MAX 3D @ the theater, I didn't see their 4K BR player...everything was right there on the screen in front of my eyes. Isn't it what it's all about! You betcha, for the 2nd time now. Amen Last edited by LordoftheRings; 02-19-2017 at 01:46 AM. Reason: couple typos ... |

Last: Ask your TV first what it can do for you, like can it take full advantage of Dolby Vision, is it even a Dolby Vision TV? If not you might want to look @ the Sony instead.
And if yes, do you think that the Sony 800 could ever get a Dolby Vision firmware update? To be, or not to be....that, is the question. |
