Why haven't we gotten a release of this. I'm gonna have to buy the old one or import it from uk. It should get a release here

suspect it has to do with distributor rights ...... it has moved from Warners over to 20th Century Fox....

I've got this on the way from Amazon.UK, just the standard Amaray version. It wasn't very expensive, it cost similar to what I would expect the local version to be, if there was one. I'm not looking forward to it as much as I was before I saw the screen caps. I think the original Japanese one will still be my go to version:

I suspect patience is needed. Unless it's a new release film, we don't always get things the same day/week/month as the States or UK.

I know that could be the case but there have been other remasters that haven't been released here like Apollo 13, Sparticus and etc

Our market is smaller than some other countries, therefore our range will always be smaller due this. If the studios/distributors don't think the return is there for particular titles, then they are not going to bother releasing them here (or will give us an inferior product). People that import, which includes myself, are partly to blame, because this says to the distributors/studios that Australian consumers are less interested in the Blu-ray format . I do try to purchase as much as possible locally, because I feel that supporting the local market is important, for these type of reasons. I'm not a fussy packaging collector that goes off shore simply because of our classification symbols printed on bits of paper and cardboard, I only import for the quality of a disc, or for titles that haven't been released here. That being said, I do think this new version of Heat will make it's way here at some point though.

I'm trying my hardest to hold off for the inevitable 4K Blu-ray release... Surely with a fresh remaster having been conducted, it's coming. Hopefully.

Love Micheal Mann and his films (Heat, Collateral, Miami Vice)... Anyone responsible for Miami Vice (the series) is pretty cool in my book.

At least I can gift the Aussie VC-1 transfer to my father. Saw it with him in the cinemas in the 90's, so I know he enjoyed it.

This whole "impact" nonsense is just silly. It sounds like a physical thing, as if the violence is going to jump out of the screen and hit you. I definitely prefer the NZ OFLC's descriptive terms like "graphic violence" and "sadistic violence", those actually make sense in the context of the medium.

The original HEAT cinema classification is MA 15+ (Medium level violence, Medium level coarse language) dated 9th Feb 1996.

If you look at HEAT SPECIAL EDITION DISK 1 DVD MA 15+ entry dated 2005, the consumer advice is "Medium level violence, Medium level coarse language" but there are no content indicators because the original HEAT classification pre-dates that feature, which was introduced only a few years ago.

There are two DISK 2 entries, one dated 2005 MA 15+ (Medium level violence) for DVD with no content indicators, and one DISK 2 - REVISED dated 2017 MA 15+ (Strong violence) for Blu-ray, but with mismatched content indicators.

So, well spotted.

The UK BBFC database separates features from bonus content. The ACB has been putting separate entries for extras only recently, but of course the database structure isn't set up to do that properly.

One wonders if the ACB charges a separate fee for the bonus disks? It shouldn't make a difference, because their fees are time-based anyway.

I spoke with Fox Home Entertainment Australia yesterday, and asked if there had been any updates for this. Apparently it has been pushed back by a few weeks, to the 23rd of August.

This is very much what the UK's BBFC see in the consumer research they conduct every few years. Mainly focused on families with children and I think they interview in the thousand, so a large sample.

What all this shows is parents are much more concerned about bad language than violence. Probably because a child can easily copy the bad language and start swearing at home or school, whereas they aren't going to have access to guns to start shooting people (apart from the occasional deranged nutter).

The BBFC used to cut out all sorts of scenes (often not even violent ones) involving things like headbutts, nunchaku and butterfly knives because they thought kids would copy them. Bloody ridiculous, especially because it meant titles like Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Spiderman 2 ended up being senselessly butchered, and the latter instance we're still inheriting their bullshit cuts.
