That earlier 80s styled script from the guy who wrote Prisoners sounded much better than...this.

The 80's script was written by Nick Antosca, who is the showrunner on Channel Zero.

The piece of shit that just got cancelled was written by Aaron Guzikowski, who is the writer of Prisoners.

Yeah the Nick Antosca script is the one that sounded really fun.

Nothing against the ideas Aaron Guzikowski had, it just really needed several more drafts to make it less "we wanna do Rob Zombie's Halloween Uno and the first Platinum Dunes Friday the 13th all over again" and more clean and to the point.

Don't ever look for any logic in Hollywood. You won't find it.

I thought that idea with Elias, Pamela and Jason was good, I'd watch that. I don't NEED something exactly the same as the previous movies, as I have those, all 10 of them or more if you count the remake. I'm up for something different.

JGTH tried something different and everyone hates it for that reason. Personally, I think it's one of the best entries, but I'm definitely in the minority.

Yeah I mean I don't blame them for trying to think outside the box and come up with something new but it seems as if most fans literally just want more of the same.

Maybe that's because it worked just fine for the first 8 movies? Those new script ideas seem way too convulated and they want to make these movies much deeper and thoughtful than they are

But you just said JGTH was one of the best of the series. That entry is convoluted and does something different, your above post seems to contradict that.

I meant that they are trying too hard to find deep psychological answers to explain Jason and his family. That seems too forced, because the approach is way too serious for such a slasher franchise as F13th. JGTH works with supernatual aspects and that's it. The family angle doesn't work that well, I agree.

Yes I see what you mean now. True they don't want to overthink stuff like this and get into the psychology, it's just not necessary. I think they can shake the formula up a bit though, not just retread exactly the same ground. It still obviously needs to be a slasher movie at heart but they can give it a twist or a spin on the sub genre.

I recently read the Halloween Returns script and with the proper care this might have been one of the best Halloween films. It's really good. Looking forward to reading the Friday one.

I honestly don't know, you think after Antosca's work on both Hannibal and Channel Zero, they go back to that script and give him a chance.

Jason Blum wants to reboot Friday The 13th

Quote:
Producer Jason Blum of Blumhouse fame would love a chance to reboot Jason… from the Friday The 13th movies. Blumhouse has come to dominate the horror landscape in the last decade, thanks to their lucrative brand of high concept ideas produced on a low budget. This has resulted in franchises like Insidious, The Purge and Paranormal Activity.

Blumhouse had an especially good year in 2017 thanks to the critical and commercial success of movies like Get Out and Split. Horror fans had few complaints when it was announced Blumhouse was rebooting Halloween, and that they even convinced Jamie Lee Curtis and series creator John Carpenter to return. Now it seems Jason Blum would like a shot at another slasher icon.

During an interview with CinePOP for Insidious: The Last Key, the producer was asked if there was any other franchise he would like to tackle. It didn’t take him long to respond:

“Besides Halloween? You know, I really wanted to do Friday the 13th. I would love to do that movie. Maybe someday we’ll get do to that one.”

That’s not much to go on of course, but it would be exciting to see what Blumhouse could do with a Friday The 13th movie. The franchise has been on extended hiatus since the previous reboot in 2009, and while numerous scripts and directors have been attached to another Friday movie, the studio can never seem to crack it. Paramount was actually gearing up to make a new sequel at the beginning of 2017, but the disappointing box-office of Rings caused them to cancel it before filming.

It’s not just Jason who’s had a hard time getting back on the big screen – most of the old school horror icons have been on ice. For years now revivals of A Nightmare On Elm Street and Friday The 13th have been mooted, but they never seem to get far. Other classic villains like Hellraiser‘s Pinhead or Child’s Play’s Chucky have found themselves heading straight to DVD. Horror movies in recent years have tended to focus on ghosts or other supernatural threats with little in the way of bloodshed, but the huge success of IT – and the popularity of Pennywise – may have convinced studios that horror movies with iconic villains are making a comeback.

Blumhouse’s Halloween reboot will likely play a role in that too – because if studios see audiences are still interested in retro horror series, it won’t take long for even more reboots to arrive. It helps the new Halloween has a great line-up of talent behind it; besides Curtis, Blum and Carpenter, it’s being directed by David Gordon Green and co-written by actor Danny McBride. Depending on the film’s success, it wouldn’t be a major shock if Blumhouse also gets a chance to play with Friday The 13th at some point in the future.
