Default Buying an HDTV on Ebay?

Just asking because I have a 10% ebay coupon plus combine that with Live cashback and im looking at savings of 300+ dollars. Anyone buy a high end item from ebay? Im lookin at the Pannys 50 TH models, not really particular about 80u 85u 800u. But lets just say I got with an 85u for 1,334.99 after 10% subtract another 25% (200 max from live.com cashback) im looking at $1,139.00 for a TH-50PZ85u after my discounts kick in.

I'd be concerned as to whether they were an authorized retailer so that your warranty was good. A lot of online stores sell through eBay, so they aren't all risky. Heck, even Monoprice sells through eBay.

the biggest problem id have in terms of risk is lets say u get a set and u open it up turn it on and u have a bunch of dead pixels its not like u can just take it to the store and exchange it and then if you do have a way to return it u have to ship it back and you will be hard pressed to find ne seller willing to swallow the large return shipping so then u could be out 100+

As long as its an authorized dealer, there shouldn't be a problem

Agreed.

I bought an HDTV from eBay in the past and had no problems.

I'm going to be purchasing a HDTV soon. I initially thought about doing it online for a cost savings. But issues involving delivery & setup & my being available when delivery occurs vs. my working hours just made that option too risky & too hard to coordinate. So, consequently, I'm going to buy from a local Hi-Fi/Video store who will deliver when I want it delivered & set it up for me. It should be a piece of cake vs. the online purchase scenerio. It will cost me more $$$$, but this is my situation & not every other person's situation. If buying online is the way for them to get the HDTV, then go for it.
