Wal-Mart's price for the Sony player BDP-S300 is $488, which represents a new low price record for a Blu-ray player (both the BDP-S300 and the PS3 are available elsewhere for $499).

To further sweeten the pot, Wal-Mart is also throwing in two free Blu-ray discs with purchase of the BDP-S300 -- 'Gridiron Gang' and 'Open Season,' both from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Combined with the BDA's recently announced "Five Discs Free" promo, that's a total seven free Blu-rays for lucky Wal-Mart shoppers.

Is the 5 free BD's from the BDA applicable to Canadians? I read the form and don't recall seeing that it is offered to Canadian residents. Any help Canucks?

That's a pretty good deal if you like either of those movies.

For several weeks techdepot.com, the tech, on-line cousin of Office Depot, has had the s300 for about $438 plus shipping, no sales tax. However, they never seem to have any in stock. I haven't checked the last few days.

Just bought my S300 at Circuit City last week. I'm gonna print out this Walmart page and take it to CC tomorrow for a promo match.

Bad news. Circuit City actually refused to match this promo. The manager I spoke to cited the fact that the Walmart packaging has a different SKU, and that their Price-match policy specifically excludes special offers or bonus items... it is "price only".

I debated this with him for a bit, saying it technically is a price match because if I were to buy the S300 @ Walmart and also wanted to buy Gridiron Gang and Open Season, I'd get those two movies for free, hence, it IS a price issue--the two just simply aren't apples-2-apples. He saw my logic but refused to budge.

Now, YMMV here, but thankfully I personally knew another manager there and when he came over to say hello, I explained the situation and he (reluctantly) did it. Looks like my grandpa was right: it IS who you know in this world!
