The 4k combo pack is down to $25, if people are impatient. You'll be prepared for your upgrade someday too.

Yeah this is getting odd that if the 4K release is dropping into the standard blu ray price range that people wouldn't just buy this release. Frankly I think the black case on the 4K release with the Unforgiven title in yellow on the very nice slipcover suites the release very well.

I just don't know if I'll ever upgrade my collection. I've said that when Blu-ray came out but at the time I had very limited funds and I think I was just fooling myself. Now that I have the funds I think I would rather save it for retirement (I'm 37 but I'm planning to retire young). I also have an obsessive personality when it comes to this hobby so if I did upgrade it would be all or nothing and the fact that studios aren't releasing 4K with every new release they are showing me they haven't committed to the format yet. I think that once cable providers upgrade then it's something I will consider but again, I am more than happy with standard BD.

Sometimes I sit back and remember how happy I was with DVD. What I mean by that is I was never impressed with the PQ, I found I was enjoying the films more because I wasn't focused on the PQ. I was focused on the film itself. Nothing beats watching one of your favourite films with a stellar PQ though. After all that's why I have invested money and time on calibrated my HT.

They didn't release everything in HD in the early days either, I think it's pretty normal to skip bombs and older demographic movies on the new tech. Also not sure your upgrade everything OCD would be a huuuuge problem, since I bet with older movies only the true classics really get upgraded for the most part. I don't see slasher movies or Canon films or whatever coming to UHD. Though I guess you never know.

I get it, valid points. Most of the movies I've been enjoying now have been the sleezy B movies. The Blade Runner 4K review has me intrigued though. I'll continue to enjoy 1080P until I don't I suppose.

Some studios haven't even fully committed to Blu-ray yet And those who were initially supportive of the format have lost interest in anything but the latest releases. I can't imagine UHD faring any better.

Yup, which is why I haven't made the jump. I'll never say never but I'll say not right now.

$25 for a reference catalog UHD and a great remastered BD is a no-brainer, especially when you can sell the code for a few bucks (or if you're really anti-4K, sell that disc off too and get a REALLY great deal). No point in waiting for a standalone Blu-ray at this point.

I can wait for the remastered BD. It would bother me seeing a few random 4K's in my collection if I can't watch them.

Not going to purchase a format I don't care for. Patience is not an problem for me. Plenty of stuff to buy in the meantime.

For the foreseeable future, yes.

The fact is that HDR just doesn't work well on my set. It's not UHD Premium, and the image ends up looking far too dim. Also, my surround receiver is not compatible with HDR, so I'd end up having to sacrifice my HD sound to watch UHDs.

I'm not looking to upgrade either my TV nor my receiver anytime soon. I bought the former only a year and a half ago with an eye on its 3D capability (which I'm enjoying mightily), and my BD collection looks better than ever on it.

I don't begrudge anyone embracing UHD, but its just not realistically in the cards for me.

I wasn't expecting it to. Whoever told you that at Warner was a peon.

I got lucky and found the remastered blu ray disc for sale on ebay, paid $7.50 shipped. Put it in my digibook, now I gotta print a blu ray cover and sell the original disc.

Most likely someone bought the 4K and sold off the accompanying bluray to recoup some of their costs - I do the same with DVDs from the combo packs.
