...to have an active debate over a topic in OT these days without it being deleted at the drop of a hat? I've seen multiple threads simply disappear as soon as there was a disagreement over something. Seems like some folks have itchy delete fingers, lately...

They just dropped mine (List some thing you dont understand). I thought it was a fun one. But yeah, this site is really sensitive with regards to posts. I've seen the mods litterally rape my threads. Change the title, thread, colors. Everything. They even deleted some of my pictures and Blu's from my collection.

well unless i'm missing some rule to offtopic that says we can't have a discussion, then there's no need for the sudden change in thread closures, post deletions and thread deletions.

but its exactly what i expected, so par for the course i guess.

Well, there was Blu-Ron's thread on what you don't understand that was just deleted (not individual posts, the whole thing) and there were several threads earlier this week that I can't remember off the top of my head. It use to be that "problem" posts were deleted and/or posters warned if they were crossing the line about something, but now it seems like the easiest thing to do is just delete the whole thread if debates start over something. How I see it, anyway.

edit: Just remembered one of them, the thread about the kid who killed himself over the internet was simply deleted the other day.

I deleted a few posts that were harassing other members, but I didn't delete the entire thread.

Well, I agree that harassing posts should be deleted and the posters warned/banned, but the entire thread was just deleted a short while ago.

well no offense to anyone, but that off topic area is getting out of control. People are starting threads for the sake of doing it. I understand that its off topic but some people are misunderstanding that for "anything goes" which isnt case. There needs to be some posting rules to these 'What color socks are you wearing?' threads.

The purpose of that area is for a place to put things that don't fit in the other forums, news events(celebrity news not included)dvd, music related items and so on. I think there should be some sort of posting rules. I have nothing in it so it wasn't me but I would have file 13'd alot more.

I had proposed to Blue that they got to the posts in that area dont count. Basically meaning post away but your count dont move. It seems to work on HDD to eliminate the +1 excess posts. And yes there are people still posting for status

Alot of people forget this is a professional site and is viewed that way by non forumees. This is just my 2 cents and is up for debate

No offense jw, but I see many posts here that are far from "professional" - and they are left as is.

I see biased Mods here do un-professional things as well.
I hear comments about this site that contradict your claim of professionalism.

Sorry.

posts yes, but do you see any threads? Sometimes what one person sees the next guy misses. If they are bad posts, report them

and we are only talking about 'off topic' here as thats the OPs complaint

That was pretty obvious on election night when the "don't forget to vote" thread turned into a Messiah ku-ba-yah love-fest, yet was allowed to continue well past 100 posts (to which Stockstar rightfully claims fame ). And just today, a post mentioning Fox News is pulled out of a thread, moved to OT and made into a "debate which new agency is best" thread. If that isn't promoting political debate, then I don't know what is.

That just explains it all there, its a contest to some of the guys here

Bottom line is you can argue it all you want, It doesnt belong here and should be deleted. This is blu-ray.com and not off topic.com. I say that with referring to the site as professional or not.

I believe the vote thread ended up getting locked because of some of the off beat comments at the very end, otherwise it would have died like the others but people always push the issue til it explodes, just like what will happen here

To some, yes, I would agree (and I don't mean Stockstar). I've reported numerous "obvious" postw#0r3$. I've also stated in previous threads that I believe posts in OT should not count toward the next "title" of a poster.

My argument was exactly that: It didn't belong here, and should have been deleted as soon as it turned into a celebrating love-fest. That it wasn't said a lot about the mods monitoring the site at the time.
